Antecedentes

The Communication Officer substantively contributes to the effective management of UNFPA activities in the areas of information and communication. The Communication Officer guides and facilitates UNFPA’s to effectively project its work and communicate with stakeholders.

Deberes y responsabilidades

  • Develop, maintain, and establish excellent working relationships with a wide range of humanitarian responders (UN agencies, NGO partners, CDC, etc.) and government representatives (MOH, MOI, etc.) Make them aware about the project and its objectives;
  • Represent the coordination and liaison work of the UNFPA and actively participate in all relevant humanitarian coordination forums (UN Clusters if appropriate) to identify critical information gaps;
  • Share with the CO humanitarian updates;
  • In coordination with the program and operation team, ensure that UNFPA activities are shared with stakeholders;
  • In close coordination with program and operation team, liaise with relevant humanitarian agencies in the production of humanitarian news and information to disseminate Key UNFPA messages, news and information;
  • Maintain and update a database with all the relevant contacts (i.e. spokespersons and focal points) from the different organizations and government ministries/units involved in the response;
  • Produce regular multimedia materials (i.e. blog posts, photos, photo slideshows, etc.) documenting reflecting UNFPA work in country;
  • Culturally and research-based relevant programme communication materials designed, pre-tested, and produced timely, meeting requirements and quality standards.

  • Prepares and communicates relevant information for evidence-based advocacy. Maintains a functioning network of contacts in the media and civil society to support advocacy efforts, and takes opportunities to advocate UNFPA’s mandate.

Resource mobilization:

  • Provides inputs to resource mobilization strategies, analyzing and maintaining information and databases on donors and developing database of project profiles for presentation to donors.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education: 

  •  Advanced degree in communication and/or other related social science field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Two years professional experience in the field of communication on development and population activities, preferably with the UN or other international agency. Familiarity with the Syrian milieu and culture.

Language requirement:

  • Superior knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic.
