Antecedentes

The Government of India in collaboration with the UNDP and the Maharashtra State Government is implementing the GOI-GEF-UNDP Project ‘Mainstreaming Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Conservation into Production Sectors in the Sindhudurg Coast, Maharashtra’

 

The UNDP-GEF intervention aims to address this through the following outcomes: (1) Cross-sectoral planning framework that mainstreams biodiversity conservation; (2) Enhanced capacity of sector institutions for implementing biodiversity-friendly fisheries management plan, ecotourism management plan and MMS management plan; and (3) Sustainable community livelihoods and natural resource use.

 

The implementation of the project at the landscape level will be carried out through Landscape Level Project Management Unit (LLPMU). The functions of the LLPMU broadly also include effective implementation the project; promote research into the scientific, sociological and economic aspects of landscape and integrate into landscape and sector plans; coordinate with different production sectors and other agencies to develop an environmentally sustainable Plans, etc.

 

The UNV will be based in Mumbai, with travel to Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, as and when required and shall work under the direct supervision of the Chief Conservator of Forests (Mangrove Cell) & Nodal Officer (Sindhudurg Project), in the Forest Department,

 

Living Conditions:.

 

Mumbai is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India, second most populous metropolitan area in India. Mumbai consists of two distinct regions: Mumbai City district and Mumbai Suburban district, which form two separate revenue districts of Maharashtra. Mumbai has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate, with seven months of dryness and peak of rains in July. The cooler season from December to February is followed by the summer season from March to June. The period from June to about the end of September constitutes the south-west monsoon season, and October and November form the post-monsoon season. Public transport systems in Mumbai include the Mumbai Suburban Railway, Monorail, Metro, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, black-and-yellow meter taxis, auto rickshaws and ferries. Suburban railway and BEST bus services together accounted for about 88% of the passenger traffic in 2008

 

A One year contract; monthly volunteer living allowance (VLA) intended to cover housing, basic needs and utilities, equivalent to INR 25,160; settling-in-grant (if applicable); life, health, and permanent disability insurance; return fares (if applicable); resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.

Deberes y responsabilidades

  • Assistance in preparation of audio visual materials as part of the project and identifying  effective channels for dissemination of all information products to relevant target audiences and supervising their distribution
  • Assistance in planning and designing the Audio visual communication centre in Sindhudurg; 
  • Conceptualizing and organizing special events, with a view to reaching wider audiences; and develop and compile relevant materials
  • Assistance in project related activities, where required. These may include planning for meetings,     local and national consultations, trips and other project related activities
  • Assist in strengthening and revitalizing the Landscape Level Project Management Unit through preparation and maintaining systematic database of project related activities
  • Maintain linkages with national and local organizations and persons
  • Keeping regular contact with project experts and consultants and reviewing the reports and other documents for correctness of form and contents
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to:

•   Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);

•   Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;

•   Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;

•   Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc;

•   Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

•   Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

 

Results/Expected Output:

 

  • Strengthened outreach activities of the GEF-Government of India Project
  • Improved visibility of GEF-Government of India Project through preparation of quality knowledge and communication materials

  • Excellent and outstanding communication, analytical skills, drafting and reporting skills. 

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

  • Master’s Degree in the field of Mass communication/Public Relations/Economics/English Literature

      with excellent academic record.

  • At least 3 years of post-Masters relevant experience in mass communication/ Public

Relations/Economics/English Literature.

  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web

based management systems is essential.

  • Willingness to travel.
