Antecedentes

Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors. Under the supervision of the UN Women Jordan Representative, the Policy Specialist is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the organization policies in the areas of UN coordination, advocacy, programming and partnership with the civil society to achieve gender equality and advancement of women. Under the guidance and supervision of the UN Women Jordan Representative, the incumbent provides technical, policy and programme support for coordination, policy development, policy advocacy, and for the development and implementation of global, regional and national programme strategies. She/He will work in close collaboration with UNCT members, Government officials, civil society partners and media outlets.

Deberes y responsabilidades

  • Provide effective support to the UN Women Jordan Representative on UN programming and coordination, including – where relevant - in the provision of guidance, the preparation and implementation of reports and documents, reporting on results, and support him/her in the country-level work;
  • Develop and implement advocacy/communication strategies in partnership with key UN Women partners;
  • Strengthen and expand the partnership with the Civil Society;
  • Provides technical and substantive assistance to UN Women in the field for programme/project design and implementation.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Masters Degree related to International Relations, Politics, International Development, or a related social science subjects.

Experience:

  • A minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience working on UN coordination/ development issues; experience working in the region is an asset;
  • Proven experience supporting UN/national coordination processes/mechanisms;
  • Experience developing advocacy and communication tools and overseeing their implementation;
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders, and working with diverse partners;
  • Prior working experience with the UN is strongly desired. Experience working in Jordan is strongly desired.

Language:

  • Fluent written and spoken english;
  • Spoken Arabic is an asset.

Note:

The position will be remunerated based on an “all inclusive” monthly lump-sum (week-ends and public holidays are not included). The successful candidate will receive his/her payment at the end of every month based on a time sheet duly approved by the UN Women Country Representative.

The selected applicant will be requested to provide a Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician prior to commencement to work also certifying that the individual is fit to travel.
