Antecedentes

The Ministry of Urban Development and Construction and the Federal Micro and Small Enterprises Development Agency (FeMSEDA), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ethiopia, launched the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) in February 2013. The programme’s aim is to foster the emergence of a robust and competitive private sector through micro and small scale business sectors.

To oversee effective and successful implementa­tion of the EDP, the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) was established in Addis Ababa in May 2013. EDC is a semi-autonomous organization which spearheads the implementation of innovative entrepreneurship skills training and provision of customized business development services to new and existing MSEs and entrepreneurs in the country. EDC has regional offices in Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and SNNPRS.

EDC is seeking the services of qualified personnel to assume the following posts:

The incumbent will be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing EDC’s support for entrepreneurship innovation services and activities within the framework of the EDP. S/he will lead the work of the Entrepreneurship Innovation Service at the EDC and ensure its linkage, alignment and integration with other EDC core support services such as entrepreneurship development training and provision of business development services (BDS).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • He/she is expected to carry out the following duties;
  • Promote, stimulate and encourage innovation ethos and culture within the EDC;
  • Monitor national developments that impact on innovation and advise on their strategic implications for EDC;
  • Lead and implement the innovation programme of EDC;
  • Ensure an effective system, through membership, for dissemination of all relevant areas of innovation plans and activities in EDC (liaise with innovative initiatives in-country, regionally and globally);
  • Ensure allocation of resources for innovation;
  • Monitor the implementation of innovation plans and to review and evaluate their progress and effectiveness, recommending relevant actions as appropriate;
  • Advise resource implications for implementing innovation plans;
  • Coordinate with BDS managers to provide innovation advise to entrepreneurs;
  • Develop an innovative business model for the entrepreneurship innovation service in order to create a sustainable platform for the service;
  • Proactively identify opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship related investments;
  • Establish and manage a database of innovators to provide a platform of knowledge sharing and exchange  and business matching services;
  • Prepare reports on innovation activities of EDC;
  • Prepare policy briefs on innovation;
  • Design, plan and organize entrepreneurship innovation events;
  • Work closely with the Centres of Excellence on Entrepreneurship (CoEE’s) established in selected public universities and identify joint possible activities on innovation and follow up their implementation;
  • Work closely with regional offices of EDC on innovation to replicate innovation initiatives in the regions.

Reporting:

  • The Innovation Service manager will directly report to the CEO of EDC but will work closely with other project personnel, regional offices and stakeholders.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Masters’ Degree in business management, economics, development studies or other related fields.

Experience:

  • At least 6 years work experience in a related post, such as social innovation, technical innovation including research and development, marketing, industrial creativity, business management, and access to finance;
  • Extensive experience of developing, maintaining and delivering innovation activities is highly required;
  • Experience of working and/or a good network with the public and private sector partners and senior level experience in establishing and maintaining public and private partnerships is considered an asset;
  • Prior experience on development programmes/projects is also considered as an additional asset;

Language:

  • Excellent written and spoken English and Amharic languages.
