Antecedentes

The regional UNDP New Partnerships and Emerging Donors team includes team members based in four locations: Istanbul, Bratislava, Bucharest, and Moscow. The team facilitates knowledge and funding flows from new EU Member States – Czech Republic, Romania, and Slovakia – to UNDP programme countries, cultivates strategic partnerships with Turkey and the Russian Federation, and helps design innovative partnerships with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and non-traditional actors. 

The team’s day-to-day work includes:

  • Supporting countries that have recently become providers of development assistance to manage their funds effectively, transparently, and with high visibility;
  • Working with emerging donors to collect, organize and share knowledge gained from their experience in development cooperation;
  • Building linkages with various non-state partners, such as non-governmental organizations, philanthropic foundations, think tanks and academia;
  • Training government staff to deal with all aspects of development assistance, such as project cycle management, strategic planning, and effectively communicating results.

Deberes y responsabilidades

Under the overall supervision of the Team Leader, the intern will work closely with the partnership development consultant and support the work of other team members.

The intern will perform, inter alia, the following tasks:

  • Undertake research related to partnership and resource mobilization and compile information, including analysis of donor policies;
  • Draft, review, and edit concept notes, background papers, briefing notes, conference reports, and other knowledge products;
  • Support communications work including the development of outreach materials/products as well as presentations, blogs, and web updates;
  • Assist in organizing team’s events, including the Capacity Building Series for emerging donors and joint events with philanthropic foundations (event logistics);
  • Provide general support to the work of the Partnerships Team.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a graduate level programme (Master’s or higher) preferably in international development, international relations, social sciences, public or business administration, or related disciplines;
  • Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the field of development cooperation;
  • Experience in partnerships building and donor relations as well as development assistance related activities at the field level will be an asset;
  • Demonstrated interest in the work of the UNDP and other UN agencies and programmes;
  • Excellent computer literacy (standard software applications).

Language:

  • Proficiency in English, with excellent writing, research and analytical skills is a must;
  • Knowledge of Russian and/or other languages of the CIS region will be an asset.

Conditions:

  • The intern will work full-time at the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub for a period of three to six months. Applicants must state their availability (exact dates) and provide the estimated graduation date;
  • UNDP internships are non-paid and travel expenses are not covered. The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc.;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. Interns are responsible to arrange for their own visa and residence documents, and need to plan for these well in advance;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
