The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global anti-poverty network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 177 countries and territories, working with stakeholders on their own solutions to global and national development challenges.

The Regional Bureau for Arab States, which leads UNDP’s work in across the Arab States Region, is seeking a graduate student with an interest in global issues and communications to work at the forefront of development and communications with the Bureau.  This post will allow the opportunity to assist in developing communications campaigns, media strategies, social media projects, and many other creative endeavors, that raise awareness for and engage people in UNDP’s efforts in the Arab States to support progress towards sustainable human development.

Deberes y responsabilidades

  • Assist the Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) in producing communications materials such as stories, brochures and newsletters highlighting the work and results of UNDP;
  • Assist with the promotion of UNDP’s work in the region on social media, and conceive new tools for recruiting and engaging supporters;
  • Support drafting of press releases and other text-based outreach materials.

Competencias

  • Demonstrate excellent understanding of social media trends, techniques, and information architecture.
  • Proven ability to be creative;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Strong networking, liaison and collaboration skills.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Enrolment in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship (in Development or Communications-related field, such as journalism, media studies, international relations, political science, anthropology, sociology, public or business administration.
  • Not have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship.

Experience:

  • Experience editing images or preparing graphics for the web and email communications a plus.
  • Experience with multimedia a plus.

Language:

  • Fluency in English-- written and spoken-- is required;
  • Proficiency in French and/or Arabic a plus.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Bring a certificate from her school that s/he is enrolled in a Master's programme;
  • Have a valid visa to work in the US;
  • Have medical and life insurance.

Conditions:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members;
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, etc.
