UNDP’s Bureau for Management Services (BMS), Office of Human Resources (OHR) is committed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of its online programs and operations policies, guidelines and documents. The HR Policy and Compensation Unit is looking for an aspiring Documentalist/Archivist to help organize, digitize and archive its HR policy library and related documents.

 

Deberes y responsabilidades

The purpose of the internship is to support the HR Policy and Compensation Unit in the review and analysis of available HR documents from UNDP and UN archive resources and to develop a repository of documents for the day-to-day activities and operations, as well as for archival purposes.

The duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop workflows and procedures, and aid in policy revisions, for the digital repository/archive;
  • Arrange, digitize, describe, preserve, and make accessible born-digital and digitized materials following archival practices;
  • Help identify, evaluate, recommend, and implement appropriate hardware and software for digital preservation and digitization;
  • Assist in planning and implementing digitization projects;
  • Assist in infrastructure development, planning and support for long-term access to the digital repository/archive;
  • Create reports and other documentation about the digital repository/archive;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and actively pursuing a Master's degree in Library or Information Science, or Informatics.
  • Applicants must have knowledge of digital preservation of archival materials and principles and practices for item description/metadata; or
  • Have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree in Information Science, or Informatics, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages;
  • Not to have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship. 

Experience:

  • Knowledge of metadata standards, reformatting guidelines, and issues pertaining to digitization and institutional repositories;
  • Knowledge of digital preservation theory and practice and experience with born-digital data stewardship;
  • Understanding of principles of database management, and systems analysis with specific knowledge of current archival holdings systems.

Language:

  • Fluent in English.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
