Antecedentes

UNCDF is the UN’s capital investment agency for the world’s 48 least developed countries. UNCDF focuses on Africa and the poorest countries of Asia, with a special commitment to countries emerging from conflict or crisis. UNCDF programmes are designed to catalyze larger capital flows from the development partners, national governments and the private sector, for maximum impact toward the Millennium Development Goals. 
Under the supervision of the Local Development Finance Programme Manager, Local Development Finance Practice in HQ, the Policy Intern will assist the practice in the area of local development, research, studies, advocacy and communications support at the global, regional and country levels in Least Developed Countries (LDCs). 

Deberes y responsabilidades

The key result expected is support to the policy agenda of the Local Development Finance Practice as directed by the Practice through research, analysis, and writing and other support as needed.  Specifically, the key activities of the intern will involve the following: 

  • Organizing, uploading, and maintaining key policy on local finance, fiscal decentralization, service deliveries, municipal procurement and gender documents on UNCDF intranet and UNDP work team.
  • Coordinating and writing the internal newsletter on Local Development Finance Practice.
  • Conducting research on Local Development issues at corporate level and writing summaries and analyses based on that research.
  • Assisting on the development of targeted advocacy martials, donor proposals, through research and writing.
  • Supporting the practice on the implementation of the UNCDF gender strategy.
  • Other tasks as requested.

Work Arrangements 

The intern will work full-time, and may work in the UNCDF office or telecommute as agreed with the supervisor.  In the office, work space will be provided, and the intern will have access to a computer whenever possible.  While telecommuting, the intern will be responsible for using his/her own computer.  The intern maybe provided with a limited corporate email.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in Masters programme in economics, public administration, public policy, communications, international development or development related field. 

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience, part or full-time, paid or volunteer, in development, research, advocacy, communications and policy development.
  • Excellent computer capabilities.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical capacity. 

Language:

  • Strong writing and speaking abilities in English. 

Conditions:

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNCDF. The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc. Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out (i.e. New York, USA). Have medical and life insurance;

The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNCDF but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
