Antecedentes

UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, operational since January 2011, works towards accelerating the United Nations’ goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. UN Women supports innovative and catalytic programmes, advocacy, and technical assistance related to women’s human rights in countries throughout the world as part of the overall UN development cooperation system.

UN Women Egypt Country Office in Cairo is looking to hire a consultant to contribute in supporting research and programmatic work of the violence against women programme. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of Violence Against Women (VAW) Project Officer, and overall guidance of Deputy Country Director.

Development Objective:

The work of the research assistant will enhance the overall development objective of decreasing the prevalence of Violence Against Women and Girls in targeted urban areas.

Immediate Objective:

The immediate objective of consultant’s work is to provide research support as required for the programme’s implementation.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The consultant is expected to be responsible for:

  • Undertake research as required for documents and reports to Ending Violence against Women in Egypt and internationally.
  • Collect human stories from the field, including challenges faced and success stories.
  • Analyze documents related to the development of the Egyptian referral system for survivors of Violence against Women.
  • Mapping organizations working on SGBV in Egypt.Reporting to UN Women Egypt CO.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as international development, political sciences, gender studies or similar field of education.

Experience:

  • 1 year of relevant experience in research, support to implementation of gender, violence against women and development projects, UN Experience is an asset;
  • Previous experience working/consulting for international projects/programmes.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office tools, as well as planning, monitoring and cooperation online tools and portals.

Language Requirenments:

  • Fluency in English, excellent spoken and written skills.
