Background

UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations. It is established in 1976, it provides financial and technical assistance to innovative approaches aimed at fostering women's empowerment and gender equality. Today the organization's work touches the lives of women and girls in more than 100 countries. UNIFEM serves as a catalyst to ensure mainstreaming women rights in policy and programs levels, as well as it plays an innovative and a catalytic role in the UN system making the voices of women heard at the United Nations — to highlight critical issues and advocate for the implementation of existing commitments made to women.
In line with fulfilling UNIFEM’s strategic objectives, UNIFEM Arab States’ program focuses on three main areas strengthening women’s political participation, ending violence against women and ensuring women’s economic security and rights in the region
UNIFEM seeks to recruit a Program Coordinator with proven expertise in program development, project management, human and financial management, partnership building and resource mobilization to oversee UNIFEM’s work in Jordan. The Jordan Program Coordinator will be responsible for leading UNIFEM’s country program in Jordan, as well as the management of all projects/programs in Jordan. The Jordan Program Coordinator will also play an active role within Jordan UN structures including but not limited to the CCA / UNDAF.

Duties and Responsibilities

 
·         Formulate UNIFEM’s Jordan Country Strategy in line with UNIFEM’s regional, as well as global strategies.
·         Responsible for implementation of UNIFEM strategy in Jordan in all aspects.
·         Prepare project documents, project work plans and project strategies in coordination with national counterparts and key stakeholders.
·         Supervise the implementation of UNIFEM program activities as outlined in the projects’ work plan.
·         Maintain regular communication with the projects’ implementing partners and key stakeholders, ensuring their active participation, involvement and support of the project’s objectives and activities.
·         In coordination with the Regional Office, develop a unified and systemic process of monitoring and documenting the implementation of the projects, utilizing viable indicators and lessons learned.
·         Identify, recruit and supervise national and international consultants as deemed necessary for implementation of projects, in coordination with the regional office in Amman.
·         Supervise and manage the administration and finances of projects according to UN rules and regulations, to ensure accountability and high performance
·         Manage Program resources and administration to ensure accountability.
·         Liaise with donors and partner organizations on Program implementation and resource mobilization.
·         In cooperation with the Regional Office, design and implement a resource mobilization strategy for both immediate and long-term objectives of the Program in Jordan.
·         Building partnerships with government and nongovernmental stakeholders.
·         Develop strategies for building capacity of national partners.
·         Develop advocacy material and overseeing dissemination of these materials.
·         In coordination with Regional Program Director and Deputy Regional Program Director, the Program Coordinator will play a vital role to support the Regional Program Director in the UN Country Team in Jordan.
·         Participate as a member of Senior Management Team of Arab States Regional Office representing Jordan.
·         Performing other duties required by the Regional Program Director or Deputy Regional Program Director as deemed necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, International Development Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or related field.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and proficiency in Arabic is an asset.
  • 5 years of relevant experience of working in the area of gender/development at the national/international level, knowledge and experience of the UN would be an asset
  • Experience of working with Governments, UN Agencies, NGOs and women’s groups etc. in the region.
  •  International exposure in the area of gender/development would be an asset.
