Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the AAP - National Coordinator, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the AAP Project Management Unit (AAP – PMU) and other officials and visitors as directed, ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security and safety issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Upon request of the supervisor, the Driver can also be required to provide driving services to the operations staff, Government partners, experts and UN staff on mission.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services to the AAP PMU
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle and related records
  • Operate Radio from the Radio Base
  • Assist in the implementation of the AAP for Nigeria
  • Any other tasks assigned by the National Coordinator
  • Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by driving the AAP vehicle on daily basis.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures availability of the entire required documents/supplies office directory, map of the city /country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
    Operate the HF radio at the base: respond to routine and emergency radio calls. Undertake weekly radio checks with Agencies.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • West African School Certificate or GCE “O” Levels.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Qualified Motor Mechanic

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years’ work experience as a driver of Land Cruisers and/or Land Rovers in an INGO, Embassy or UN System, using hand-held VHF and vehicle HF radios.

Other Requirements:

  • Training in Defensive Driving
  • Working knowledge of road networks in Abuja and/or Lagos in particular and Nigeria in general.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
  • knowledge of one main national language is an added advantage.
