Background
Under the supervision of the UNAIDS Country Coordinator (UCC), and the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer (NPO), the UN Joint Programme Coordinating Adviser will coordinate the UN Joint Programme of Support on HIV& AIDS in Nigeria, work with the national counterparts, the UN agencies and other partners to undertake the following tasks:
Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide technical expertise/support to guide the implementation, monitoring and evaluation and coordination of the UN Joint Programme of Support on HIV& AIDS in the context of the National Strategic Framework 2 and the SSP for the 10+1 states• Support the UCC in advocating for, promoting awareness on and understanding of UNAIDS Outcome Framework as the bedrock for the support in HIV response
• Support the UCC in the promotion and implementation of Joint HIV/AIDS Programmes
• Support the UCC in the strengthening of UN support to the national response through the HIV/AIDS Programme of support
• Strategically plan and advocate for a collective response of the JUNTA
• Facilitate the relationship between JUNTA and other coordination groups e.g. Programme coordination group, Operation group and other thematic groups
• Monitor the implementation of the annual work plan on the UN Joint Team on AIDS.
• Provide technical support for capacity building within government, civil society, NGOs, private sector, FBOs including addressing non-discriminatory staff attitude towards people living with HIV.
• Facilitate capacity building to strengthen existing human resources and infrastructures for increased access to HIV & AIDS prevention, treatment, and Care and support services delivery.
• Contribute to the development of programmes addressing MARPs’ rights to accessing HIV prevention, treatment, care & support information and services.
• Support the collection of lessons learnt and best practices that enhance the effectiveness of UNAIDS and UN Joint Programme of Support on HIV& AIDS interventions, disseminate to stakeholders, and advocate for scaling up of same
• Support the UCO to leverage funds for the UN Joint Programme of Support on HIV& AIDS
• Participate actively in annual reviews of UN Joint Programme of Support on HIV/AIDS including relevant joint UN workshops and seminars
• Contribute to the development of the UN Resident Coordinator’s annual report on HIV/AIDS
• Serve as secretary to the United Nations Team Groups (UNTG) meetings and follow up on decision and actions
• Prepare quarterly and annual programmatic reports and contribute to the collation of the UCO annual report
• Undertake any other assignments as may be required by the UCC

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Master’s Degree or equivalent in public health, social sciences, development planning, international relations or academic equivalent.
Experience:
• 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level especially related to HIV/AIDS issues
• Good knowledge of the issues of coordination of the national AIDS response.
• Broad experience in working with UN agencies at the country level, and especially with the UN RC system and/or the UN Theme Group on HIV/AIDS.
• Previous work experience with UNAIDS and/or the UN system in a similar capacity
• Ability to prepare strategic information for decision makers.
• Good knowledge in the use of computer applications. (MS Word, Excel, Power Point).
Language Requirements:
Fluency in the UN and national language of the duty station.
