Background

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Chief Security Adviser (CSA)  and Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO):

Under the immediate supervision of the respective security professional, the Local Security Assistant-Database Management will be responsible for developing and maintaining DSS Syria incidents database. The primary purpose of this position is to administer and maintain all databases in a consistent manner so as to provide a stable operating environment and superior levels of database integrity, availability, performance, and recoverability. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with UN internal IT management policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing security related database products, services and supporting database projects;
  • Maintaining new and existing UNDSS-Syria security information system;
  • Assist in the design and development of new security databases, modification of database structures, entry forms and reports as required;
  • Support training and skills development support to DSS staff on security database management;
  • Develop and maintain update and document database to DSS Syria dealing with database on behalf of DSS Syria including user friendly menu access and reports to support country wide information coordination .Core data bases include ,Security incident Database, UN Location database/Compound Data base, Contract Database.
  • Support the development of strategies and mechanism for data and information flow to keep critical data current
  • Integrate systems into web based solutions
  • Promote data standards ( in particular geo codes and reference numbers)
  • Integrated database updating and reporting forms;
  • Link data bases to geo spatial infrastructure;
  • Maintain and update DSS-Syria web page;
  • Any other functions/duties assigned by the CSA/Supervisor

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, or Computer science, specialty in Database development/programming and management is preferable.
Experience:
  • 4 years minimum experience in Database Management System progressively responsible experience. Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable;
  • Experience in SQL language;
  • Experience in Web Programming such as: PHP, ASP…etc;
  • Experience in Windows environment program languages such as :C#, Java…etc.;
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products, notably MS Access and MS Excel;
  • Experience of data entry work.
  • Knowledge of HF and VHF equipment.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in spoken & written Arabic and English.
Other Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid driver license.
