Background

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage a weekly market price monitoring system including production of monthly market price updates;
  2. Maintain and update market price database for WFP Office in Iraq
  3. Collate market information and draft market and trade bulletins;
  4. Translate questionnaires, market data from Arabic and Kurdish to English
  5. Provide technical support to VAM related activities, which include data collection by voice and SMS.
  6. Design, plan and conduct market assessments and surveys as well as specialized market studies in consultation with the Head of VAM;
  7. Undertake regular food market price analysis to support cash and Voucher, and Programme ensure that market data is readily available for the project design in a timely manner;
  8. Develop internal capacity of WFP VAM focal points and other programme personnel at sub-offices in market price monitoring and analysis in understanding food security issues ;
  9. Initiate/support transfer of skills and develop sustainable capacity for relevant government agencies both at national and state level in market monitoring and analysis. This includes capacity building activities targeting government and other WFP partners;
  10. Support integration of market analysis into WFP regular food security assessments, and monitoring & evaluation;
  11. Support generation of market data to monitor the market impact of WFP interventions (cash/voucher and PDS) and provide guidance on programme direction;
  12. Provide overall technical guidance to the market issues and prepare on demand reports for various stakeholders, including documents outlining current status, best practices, and lessons learned;
  13. Contribute to overall understanding of food security in IRAQ through participation and support to other VAM related activities such RFSA, VAM, FSMS, CFSAM etc. This involves providing relevant market information to strengthen such analysis;
  14. Any other related tasks as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Secondary school education supplemented by technical training in computer technology or other related field.

 Experience:

At least five years of progressively responsible job related experience in information technology and/or information management, especially creating and maintaining databases and at least one year at the G5 level or equivalent.

 Knowledge:

Training and/or experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing human resources administration. Excellent computing skills, especially in Excel and Access  and a good understanding of database architecture, software and database management systems

 Language:

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English, Kurdish and/or Arabic.  

Others:

The applicant should be either an Iraqi national or have a valid Iraqi residence/ work permit at the time of application.
