Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

To achieve the Organisation's goal, UN Women is seeking for a Project Officer who under the overall guidance and direction of the supervisor, provides programme support to the effective implementation of the DRT F activities in Tete province. S/he supports the delivery of the DRT F programme by contributing to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of the local annual work plan and analyzing results achieved during implementation and supporting appropriate application of systems and procedures.

She/he works in close collaboration with UN Women programme and operations teams, Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Affairs and other Government officials, implementing partners of UN Agencies parties to this project, multi and bilateral donors, CSOs, private sector and local leaders to ensure that the technical direction of the project is maintained, and key outputs are achieved in a cost effective and timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Development and Management;
  • Inter-Agency Coordination Support at the local level;

  • Advocacy Support and Knowledge Building and Management.

Project Development and Management

  • Contributes to the development of the project annual work plan, regular progress and financial reports;
  • Organizes and participates in all project activities funded by UN Women at the provincial and local in close coordination with the Provincial Department of Gender and Social Action;
  • Produces and submits quality updates and reports on all activities implemented at the local level in weekly and monthly basis;
  • Supports the identification of the needs of the selected partners organizations, ensures provision of the necessary assistance, monitoring and recording the results;
  • Provides inputs and feedback on project implementation to partners and stakeholders and contribute to reporting and coordination;
  • Supports   and monitor the performance of the joint e-VAW initiative in Tete province;
  • Identifies activities which can be implemented jointly by participating agencies and supports the implementation.

Inter-Agency Coordination Support

  • Provides programme support to the UN Women on inter-agency coordination related activities;
  • Helps puts together analytical and regular progress reports on the joint intervention at the local level   in support of UN women inter-agency coordination role.

Strategic Partnerships Building and Resource Mobilization Support

  • Disseminates information on the project to key audiences – government, CSOs and other interested parties;
  • Participates in relevant public information events to share information on the initiative including the results achieved;
  • Maintains information on donors and develops project profiles for presentation to potential partners;
  • Ensures good partnerships with the UN Agencies, government institutions, bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors, private sector, civil society, etc;
  • Researches information on potential partners and drafts briefs on possible areas of cooperation.

Advocacy Support and knowledge Building and Management

  • Under the guidance of the supervisor, participates in advocacy networks on e-VAW and HIV& AIDS at provincial and district level;
  • Supports relevant, high-impact advocacy activities and campaigns with key partners;
  • Collects knowledge on current and emerging trends in the work on e-VAW and HIV&AIDS at the local level by gathering relevant information, on promising strategies and approaches;
  • Identify, records and shares with UN Women emerging results from the implementation of programme activities from any participating agency;
  • Contributes to knowledge networks and communities of practice.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:          

  • University Degree in Economics, Gender and human rights related disciplines, Social Sciences or related field.

Experience:       

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience at the national or international level with development projects preferably including experience in the management, of development projects;
  • Knowledge of gender and human rights issues, including gender mainstreaming/budgeting;
  • Experience in organizing events such as workshops, conferences and meetings;
  • Experience of working on gender and women’s empowerment issues in rural areas;
  • Experience of working with local government and non-government actors;
  • Experience in dealing with administrative issues related.

Language Requirements:            

  • Fluency in Portuguese and good command of English are required;
  • Knowledge of local language spoken in Tete province is an asset.
