Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The UN Women Training Centre (TC) in Santo Domingo is envisioned to become the UN leading centre of excellence in training for gender equality. The UN Women TC offers training for gender equality and women’s empowerment to UN Women staff, to UN agencies, as well as to government, civil society and partners. The gender capacity-development programmes range from basic and introductory levels to specialized and advanced levels for diverse audiences with different backgrounds. In terms of capacity-development strategies and techniques, the TC makes maximum use of on-line training techniques, paying special attention to e-learning courses and an active learning approach.

The Training Centre promotes articulation and knowledge exchange among gender training specialists and other relevant groups and the development of tools and materials in the area of training for gender equality. It also supports the documentation of existing good practices and innovative processes, as well as discussion and analysis of training methodologies and approaches directed towards contributing to ongoing capacity development as a concrete means for achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The objective of this consultancy is to support the review and systematization of lessons learnt and the training manual to improve the development and delivery of trainings.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Training Programme Coordinator, the consultant will be responsible for the delivery of the following products:

  • Document summarizing and consolidating Lessons Learnt, including activities such as: Analyzing lessons learnt documents from different courses and systematizing as a process to implement for continuous improvement, due by 15 May 2015;
  • Updated Training Manual, including activities such as: Revising and updating the Training Manual based on the review of lessons learnt, due by 5 June 2015;
  • Quality Assurance Criteria, including activities such as: Revising and refining current quality criteria, and Identifying indicators, due by 26 June 2015.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Advanced degree in Gender and Development, Education or other related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in gender equality/mainstreaming;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in developing and delivering training for gender equality materials and courses;
  • Experience in project development and coordination;
  • Experience in Knowledge Management will be considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with the UN system and specifically on gender equality and women’s empowerment within the UN system.

Language:

  • Excellent written and spoken English skills are required;
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an additional asset.
