Background

Organizational Context:

The role of the incumbent is to assist the CSA or his designate in the execution of his/her security responsibilities at the assigned duty station. The incumbent’s principal responsibility includes providing safety and security support to the UN organizations in India. The incumbent will be expected to acquire safety and security information and produce IT generated reports suitable for distribution to UN Senior Management and staff. To this end, operational police, commercial security or military experience is desirable. The ability to input and manipulate data on IT systems using common word processing, database and GIS software is highly desirable.  In addition to this the incumbent will assist the CSA in the development of contingency plans for mitigation purposes. The incumbent will be required to put in 40 hours of work each week and respond to any requests for assistance from the CSA or his designate on a 24/7 basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities :

Summary of key functions:

  • Assists the CSA in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the country;
  • Assists  with data acquisition and manipulation for graphic report presentations;
  • Reviews daily UN staff movement and advises the CSA (TRIP);
  • Assists in reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices and assets;
  • Assists with contingency plan development as required by the CSA;
  • Maintain all records pertaining to UN security;

Assists the CSA/DSA/FSCO in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding security:

  • The LSA (CS) will liaise UN Organizations and other entities as required to obtain security related information. The incumbent will maintain security related electronic databases and produce hard copy files on a regular basis, when requested.

Assist in reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices and assets:

  • The incumbent will help in obtaining, analyzing and reporting data related to safety and security such as the Security Incident Report, the Security Assessments and Quarterly Incident Report and the Warden System.

Warden System:

  • The incumbent will act as the CSA’s liaison with the UN India family for the Warden System development and maintenance and other GIS requirements.

Any other tasks as directed by the CSA in response to safety and security related exigencies.

Impact of Results:

The key results have an impact on the efficiency of the unit. Accurate presentation of information strengthens the capacity of the office and promotes the image of UN/UNDSS as an effective contributor to the development of the country. Moreover, interaction with the Host Government security forces will have a direct, beneficial impact on the ability of the UN to conduct its programmes unhindered.

  • Holds a valid national driving license and more than 5 years of driving experience with a good record;
  • Computer literacy in Word, Excel (crime stats), PowerPoint, MS Access, Google Earth and GIS applications and internet applications are compulsory;
  • Physically fit;
  • Possess a high degree of personal and professional integrity;
  • Possession of a certificate of good conduct from the government and related verifiable references.

Communication:

  • Proven and sustained communication verbal and written skills. Ability to make presentations and to communicate clearly;
  • Familiar with electronic and communication devices: GPS, Satellite phone and radio.

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications :
 

Education:

  • College or University Degree/Diploma in area of Social sciences, politics, economics; and
  • IT is desirable but not a requirement.

Experience:

  • Minimum Three years of experience in the Police, Military or related field of work, at a proficient operational level (Officer);
  • Experience in supporting investigation, information gathering and analysis would be an asset;
  • Prior working experience with the UN Security system would be an asset;
  • Computer literacy in Word, Excel (crime stats), PowerPoint, MS Access, Google Earth and GIS applications and internet applications are compulsory;

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and the national language of the duty station are compulsory.

  • Ability to travel.

Remuneration package is Rs. 75,456/- per month (taxable). UNDP also offers additional benefits which include medical insurance coverage and limited pension reimbursement for contract holder and encourages work life balance.
