Background

The project entitled Sustainable Management of POPs in Mauritius is subdivided into two Themes  namely 1) "Removal of POPs from the environment of Mauritius" whose objective is to remove POPs from the environment of Mauritius in a sustainable way through disposal of obsolete POPs chemicals and decontamination of POPs-infested areas and 2) "Develop Alternative and integrated Vector Control Strategies for Malaria" whose objective is to develop and demonstrate alternative Strategies for Malaria Vector Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of the project activities and shall report to the National Project Director. He/she will manage and provide supervision of project implementation liaising directly with the Project Director, Members of the Project Steering Committee, the Implementing Agency, and co-funders. 

Competencies

  • Desirable Experience: hazardous waste handling and operations (Rotterdam, Basel, Stockholm conventions) / related safe chemical trainings / POPs inventories/ pesticide management and control/ Solid knowledge of the Stockholm Convention and its requirements/ WHO requirements in malaria control
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in fields related to theme 1 and/or 2
  • Have effective interpersonal and negotiations skills and ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder projects and be able to think in a strategic manner on complex and difficult assignments.
  • Have good written spoken and written fluency in English and French and be fully IT literate

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree in entomology, (agro-)chemistry, chemical engineering, malaria-related subjects or a similar discipline; or electrical, chemical or mechanical engineering or other relevant science based degree;
  • Post Graduate degree in Management/Project Management or equivalent work experience.
