Gouvernance démocratique

Jamais autant de pays n'ont travaillé à construire une gouvernance démocratique. Leur défi est de mettre en place des institutions et des procédures qui sont plus à même de répondre aux besoins des citoyens ordinaires, y compris les plus pauvres. Au sein des pays et autour de la planète, le PNUD réunit les peuples, construisant des partenariats et échangeant les moyens de promouvoir la participation, la responsabilité et l'efficacité à tous les niveaux. Réduction de la pauvreté

Grâce aux objectifs du Millénaire pour le développement, le monde peut s'attaquer aux nombreuses dimensions du développement humain, y compris la réduction de moitié, d'ici à 2015, de la proportion de personnes vivant dans une situation d'extrême pauvreté. Les pays en développement travaillent à élaborer leurs propres stratégies nationales d'éradication de la pauvreté en se basant sur les besoins et priorités locales. Le PNUD assure la promotion de ces solutions développées nationalement et aide à assurer leur efficacité. Nous favorisons des projets-pilotes novateurs; nous faisons le lien entre les pays et les meilleures pratiques et sources d'information au niveau mondial; nous assurons la promotion de l'implication des femmes dans le développement; et nous réunissons les gouvernements, la société civile et les donateurs afin de coordonner leurs initiatives.

Environnement et Energie

L'énergie et l'environnement sont essentiels au développement durable. Les pauvres sont touchés de manière disproportionnée par la dégradation de l'environnement et le manque d'accès aux services énergétiques propres et abordables. Ces questions ont également une dimension mondiale, des problèmes tels que les changements climatiques, la réduction de la biodiversité et la détérioration de la couche d'ozone ne pouvant être réglés par les pays au niveau individuel. Le PNUD aide les pays à renforcer leurs capacités en vue de faire face à ces problèmes aux niveaux mondial, national et de la communauté, en recherchant et partageant les meilleures pratiques, en fournissant des conseils politiques novateurs et en faisant le lien entre les partenaires grâce à des projets-pilotes qui aident les pauvres à se constituer des moyens d'existence durables.

Prévention des crises et relèvement

Un grand nombre de pays sont de plus en plus vulnérables aux conflits violents et aux catastrophes naturelles qui peuvent réduire à néant des décennies de travail en faveur du développement et renforcer encore la pauvreté et les inégalités. Grâce à son réseau mondial, le PNUD recherche et partage des solutions novatrices à la prévention des crises, à l'alerte rapide et au règlement des conflits. Il est sur le terrain dans presque tous les pays en développement, aidant à combler le fossé entre les secours d'urgence et le développement à long terme pour les crises à venir.
