Background

Project Description

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is active in around 130 countries every year. With field presences in over 60 countries, UNV is represented worldwide. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The External Relations and Communications Section builds and nurtures corporate donor relations, strategically leads the donor resource mobilization platform and conducts coherent communications efforts to highlight the value of volunteerism for peace and development and the contributions of UNV and UN Volunteers.

Project rationale / background and the objectives of the project

To produce graphic the following graphic elements for UNV:

  • For International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2021, develop an identity design for the campaign; online assets and materials; social media cards, graphics and gifs.
  • General and simple UNV social media card templates (30) that can be built upon and used as a basis for promotion of various types of content on social media.
  • Icons/vectors (30) representing volunteers in action that can be used as illustrations for different graphic elements.

Context of the required contracting of services

The service provider will produce a set of graphic elements in support of partner outreach and to enhance UNV’s brand.

UNV’s communication products highlight the key results achieved by UNV, UN
Volunteers and the added value of volunteerism worldwide.


Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of work

The graphic design work should be done by one designer only. The graphic designer will work closely with the UNV Communications team and be responsible for the following tasks/duties:

  • Develop an identity design for the IVD campaign, along with IVD online assets and materials, and IVD social media cards, graphics and gifs. Produce high quality social media card templates (30 different options submitted – 15 square and 15 horizontal); and produce icons/vectors (30) representing volunteers in action that can be used as illustrations for different graphic elements.
  • Adapt the graphic design work submitted based on four rounds of feedback by UNV;
  • The graphic designer is obligated to work within the required deadlines and be available to UNV for comments and corrections.

Required Skills and Experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • University degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum 5 years of graphic design experience, developing brand assets and creative visuals that depict powerful messages; relevant experience in development and cooperation related areas will be an asset;
  • Demonstrable experience producing brand assets, graphic elements and social media cards for online promotion and outreach;
  • Proficient user of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, etc.);
  • Knowledge of the UN, volunteerism and development issues will be an asset;
  • Request of references for similar graphic design work.

Evaluation of applicants

Individual consultants will be evaluated based on the Combined Scoring method taking into consideration the combination of the applicants’ qualifications and financial proposal.

Applicants obtaining 49 points or more of the total technical points will be considered for financial evaluation.

Combined weighted scoring: Technical (70%); Financial (30%).

  • Design track record with demonstrated experience designing brand assets, graphic elements and social media cards 28 points;
  • Quality and relevance of previous design work samples delivered 35 points;
  • Relevance of ideas in the methodology proposal 7 points.
