Background

Low digital connectivity is hampering private sector growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina. While the ICT industry grows at a rapid rate, the country's overall economy is failing to harness new technologies to boost competitiveness and increase output. More recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the necessity of accelerated digital transformation across all industries with business digitalization widely seen as a driver of change, offering new growth prospects.

DigitalBIZ is a UNDP project that will support institutional partners, and other relevant actors, in deploying the digital economy as a lever for enhancing productivity of relevant economic sectors, growing new market opportunities, and accelerating overall economic growth. Accordingly, the project envisages the following two outputs: (1) Institutional partners and other relevant actors engaged to accelerate digital transformations of the economy, and (2) Tested gender-sensitive support schemes for digitalization in business.

Among other, DigitalBIZ will engage institutional partners and other relevant actors to design and pilot support measures to steer companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the digital economy. Such a support is meant to enable traditional businesses in key sectors to move towards digitalization, as to (a) improve efficiency and customer experience, gain new market segments and increase sales and (b) reinvent their business models by utilizing digital and emerging technologies for business innovation, growth, sustainability and resilience.

Supporting digital economy policies and support schemes, improvements in regulatory environment and digital literacy is highly relevant to strategic priorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and would contribute to the implementation of the Common Regional Market Action Plan for the Western Balkans and Digital Agenda for the Western Balkans, also opening further financing opportunities for BIH.

Funded by UNDP, DigitalBIZ is implemented over a period of 18 months until May 2022.

Location: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (with partial presence in the office)
