UNDP’s 2019-2021 Digital Strategy has created a new UNDP Digital Unit (Chief Digital Office or CDO), charged with leading the next wave of innovation in sustainable development.

The ‘digital divide’ is severe: 750 million people live in areas without any digital connectivity, and 3.3 billion people live in coverage areas but do not use the internet because of lack of affordability and digital skills. UNDP has partnered with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to help equip governments and individuals around the world with skills and capabilities to benefit from the use of digital technology

The Chief Digital Office (CDO) at UNDP is leading this effort with the goal of supporting government partners to build inclusive digital eco-systems, as well as transforming the organization internally to enable these changes.

Institutional Arrangement

The role will report to the Head of Digital Solutions in the UNDP Chief Digital Office (part of Executive Office) and the work can be carried out remotely.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

The CDO team is looking for a Digital Analyst to support the work of the UNDP-ITU Joint Facility for Digital Capacity Development. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is a strategic thinker with strong analytical and communications skills and passion for social impact. You will be working directly on a key initiative that is harnessing the power of digital technology to empower the most vulnerable communities around the world

The Digital Analyst will support the strategic conceptualization and operationalization of the UNDP-ITU Joint Facility for Digital Capacity Development. This is a highly strategic role with consistent exposure to senior management levels in both UNDP and ITU.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining target user groups and target service offers of the Joint Facility, using a human centered design process.
  • Analysis of existing digital capacity building offers of the two agencies, identification of synergies, gaps, and potential new offers
  • Alignment and consultations with UNDP and ITU internal stakeholders including country offices across all UNDP and ITU regions
  • Piloting and testing of new offers and propositions, such as training initiatives, with target users for ongoing prototyping.
  • Thought leadership around the role of digital capacity for sustainable development and digital transformation in developing countries.
  • Coordinate and implement development of minimum viable product(s) for strategy and market validation.
  • Coordinate, create and manage communications of product development, learnings and project milestones with stakeholders
  • Support the CDO team on other task/issues as required

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Academic Education:

  • Master’s degree in business information, international development, technology, Business administration or similar;
  • Bachelor’s degree in above fields with additional two years of relevant work experience can be accepted in lieu of master’s degree

Minimum years of relevant Work experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (with master’s degree) or 7 years of relevant work experience (with bachelor’s degree); at least 4 years of which is focused on strategy and/or product development, ideally related to digital transformation or (digital capacity) building.

Required skills and competencies:

  • Proficiency with digital communications platforms and tools;
  • Excellent skills in written and verbal communication;
  • Understanding of international development, international relations, and the humanitarian sector;
  • Passion for social impact, accelerating the SDGs and leaving no one behind.

Desired additional skills and competencies:

  • Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and capability to interact at all levels within the organization;
  • Ability to deliver in a high-pressure environment;
  • Ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands.

Required Language(s) (at working level):

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
  • Competency in other UN language(s) is an asset.
