Office/Unit/Project Description

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is active in 130 countries every year. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). UNV is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, with a field presence comprising 6 regional offices and 50+ field units.
The Human Resources Section (HRS) provides a full range of HR services to the organization and its workforce. Within HRS, the Capacity Development Team (CDT) leads the design and delivery of learning programs and services for UN Volunteers serving with the UN system globally. As part of their assignment, UN Volunteers can access learning programmes and services which include an online learning platforms and content (e.g. UNV e-Campus, onboarding portal, Linkedin Learning). Workshops and face-to-face trainings are regularly offered to specific target audiences in virtual and onsite formats. UN Volunteers also benefit from individual coaching opportunities. In support of its UN partners, donors and other stakeholders CDT also delivers capacity development and learning programmes tailored to specific initiatives.

 

Institutional Arrangement

The Human Resources Analyst reports to the Team Leader, Capacity Development, and works closely with the rest of the CDT and as a member of the Human Resources Section. For specific projects he/she may also report to the Learning Specialist in the team. S/he also has a second reporting line to the Team Leader, HR Management for deliverables related to HR activities for staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

3. Scope of Work
The Human Resources Analyst will contribute to the work of the HRS by supporting the delivery of virtual
and online learning programmes for UN Volunteers as well as other capacity development initiatives
benefitting UN Volunteers, UNV Staff, UN Partners and Donors. S/he will also support regular HR
processes and services including recruitment, and onboarding of staff.

Specific deliverables include:

Design, plan and deliver virtual and online learning programmes and workshops

  • Design, coordinate and deliver virtual learning programmes and workshops;
  • Coordinate and consolidate inputs and interventions of subject matter experts and resource persons;
  • Communicate with course participants as part of the registration, preparation and course delivery;
  • Collaborate with external trainers to prepare workshop materials, plan and support training delivery.

Contribute to UNV capacity development initiatives for UN Volunteers

  • Provide inputs to the design of capacity development and learning initiatives;
  • Work with UNV sections, regional offices and field units as well as with external trainers for the planning and delivery of capacity development activities;
  • Research and share instructional design best practices, innovative learning approaches and new learning solutions and technologies to increase the impact of UNV’s learning activities for volunteers;

Support HR activities related to staff

  • Plan, prepare and coordinate virtual and onsite onboarding workshops for new staff joining UNV;
  • Support the Human Resources Management team to process detail assignments within UNV;
  • Support recruitment processes, including reviewing applications to check eligibility and long-/shortlist candidates and organizing written tests and competency-based interviews.

Perform communication, administrative and operational human resources tasks

  • Draft human resources and learning materials such as communications, newsletters, MS SharePoint content;
  • Prepare surveys, collect data and analyze results to inform the design of learning programmes;
  • Respond to and resolve queries from volunteers and staff;
  • Perform assigned administrative and operational tasks.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Academic Education:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or related area;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or related area may also be considered.

Minimum years of relevant Work experience:

  • Master´s degree with no experience or Bachelor’s degree with 2 (two) years of relevant experience in carrying out human resources activities, planning, organizing and delivery of learning programmes, events, or capacity development projects,

Desired additional skills and competencies:

  • Experience in using virtual collaboration tools such as Zoom, MS Teams or similar software;
  • Experience in using HRM or Talent Management software, tools or ERP;
  • Experience in working for or with an international organization such as the UN or in an international environment;

Required Language(s) (at working level):

  • Fluency in English;
  • Proficiency in another official UN language is desirable.
