Background

The United Nations Development Programme in the Republic of Kazakhstan (UNDP) in the framework of the project #00101043 «Conservation and sustainable management of key globally important ecosystems for multiple benefits», is announcing a national competitive bidding for individuals for the position of Forestry expert for the development of sections of the Scientific Background report and Feasibility Study for the creation of 5 new PAs1 and analysis of the management of high conservation value forests.

Place of work: Home-based with trips to East Kazakhstan and Almaty regions.

Brief essay, including methodology and explaining why prospective candidate considers him/herself as the most suitable for the assignment;

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Analysis of needs and development of recommendations for improving the management of high conservation value forests in pilot PAs.
2. Assessment of the state of forests and forest ecosystems of the project areas.
3. Development of sections for a general description of the territory, the state of the environment and forest resources of the natural scientific and feasibility study for the creation of new PAs.

Competencies

Education:

• Higher biological / forest / agrobiological/agricultural education with a specialization in forestry, gardening and parks

Experience:

• At least 3 years of experience in the field of forestry, gardening, agrobiological direction;
• Availability of scientific/popular science articles;
• Work experience in government agencies, universities, research institutes and/or environmental organizations

Language:

• Excellent knowledge of Russian language. Knowledge of Kazakh and/or English will be an advantage.
