Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Part of the Strategic Partnerships Division, the Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships and Advisory Services Section (MPAS) brings together UN Women’s multi-stakeholder initiatives through various partnership engagement. It convenes Corporations and Foundations, HeForShe, Individual, Digital and Public Giving, the Unstereotype Alliance and the Women’s Empowerment Principles |WE EMPOWER-G7 and seeks to ensure that these are complementary and synergistic. MPAS is the driver of UN Women’s corporate engagement with the private sector both in terms of substantive partnership and resource mobilization, as well as leveraging the range of UN Women’s partnership vehicles and its National Committees to achieve maximum impact for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

In line with the targets set out in MPAS’s Biannual Work Plan 2022-2023, MPAS aims to amplify its and UN Women’s partnerships by producing, publishing, and disseminating communications materials and literature aimed at donors, partners, private sector entities, and the general public. For the documents listed above, and to complement the communications needs of MPAS, it requires the services of an Editor Consultant with a substantive knowledge in the field of gender equality and human rights issues to provide writing and editorial support for a number of its reports, publications, communications and fundraising materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief of the MPAS or her/his delegate and in close collaboration with relevant staff of the MPAS team, the Editor Consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Conducting the analytical review of all material (provided by MPAS) and drafting and editing of the MPAS Annual Report. (approx. 17 working days)
  2. Editing of MPAS quarterly e-newsletters (including partner features) (approx. 8 working days
  3. Writing, reviewing and editing of any other MPAS materials as requested. (approx. 10 working days)

Competencies

 

  • Excellent research, analytical, writing and editorial skills in English.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Advanced degree or equivalent in international affairs, human rights, gender/women's studies, development, and/or relevant field.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in the field of gender and human rights;
  • Experience in drafting and editing analytical documents and reports;
  • Demonstrable skills in research, analysis and writing;
  • Experience within the United Nations is highly desirable, preferably in relation to gender equality and gender-based violence.
