UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. With over seven years managing programming in Liberia, UN Women leads the United Nations Country Team on gender equality and the empowerment of women. In line with the implementation of the UN One Programme in Liberia, UN Women will begin implementation of its 2015 planned activities in line with its 2014 – 2018 Strategic Plan, supporting gender equality priorities in the Government’s Agenda for Transformation in the following impact areas: 1. Women’s leadership and political participation; 2. Women’s economic empowerment; 3. Women, peace and security; and 4. Gender responsive governance. The national reaction to EVD is within UN Women’s scope under humanitarian response. Under the overall guidance of the UN Women Deputy Representative, and direct supervision from Programme Technical Specialist, the Programme Associate works with and provides support to the members of the Programme Team in the development and implementation of effective programmes consistent with UN Women rules and regulations. S/he provides programme, administrative, and logistical assistance to the team for the smooth programme implementation.
