The common services unit is tasked with the management of the facilities under the UNDP office.  The Core functions is to ensure that the building is habitable and caters to the needs of the occupants. This position therefore ensures that maintenance issues that occur on a daily basis are attended to as and when they occur in an efficient and cost effective manner.

 A common services project which oversees amongst others the building management. The project is manged by UNDP on behalf of all UN agencies.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Common Services Manager, the Building Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for the administration, maintenance and repairs work on the UN building and facilities; he/she will oversee and evaluate the work of contractors and perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide Management and control of quality
  • Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance repairs and services;
  • Install light bulbs, doors, cabinets, paneling, carpet, and bulletin boards;
  • Assist in monitoring all work being performed by outside contractors;
  • Paint interior and exterior walls and cabinets if needed; mount wall pictures; assemble furniture;
  • Replace washers, faucets and seals on malfunctioning plumbing equipment; repair leaky faucets and clean clogged drains; install and repair sprinklers;
  • Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as scheduled;
  1. Provide Administrative Management
  • Carry cell phone as required for on-call maintenance;
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems as assigned;
  • Responsible for alerting the Common Services team of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or that may occur;
  • Ensure compliance of all work related activities in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner;
  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned;
  1. Provides support to office maintenance
  • Maintain a professional courteous manner with all residents, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees;
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with the organizations guidelines;
  • Follow established company policies and those outlined in the contractors guidelines;
  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned;Work within expense limits established;
  1. Operational effectiveness
  • Maintain monthly inspection and maintenance of building and AC roof motors, fans and replace as needed; clean, grease and paint all equipment used in heating and ventilation.
  • Special projects and other responsibilities as may be determined;

Min. years of relevant work experience

At least two years of relevant experience responsible general facilities maintenance.

Required Language(s)

Proficiency in English is required.
