Office/Unit/Project Description
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is active in 160 countries every year. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). UNV is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, with a field presence comprising 6 regional offices and 50+ field units.
The Human Resources Section (HRS) provides a full range of HR services to the organization and its workforce. Within HRS, the Capacity Development Team (CDT) leads the design and delivery of learning programs and services for UN Volunteers serving with the UN system globally. As part of their assignment, UN Volunteers can access learning programmes and services which include online learning platforms and content (e.g. UNV e-Campus, onboarding portal, Linkedin Learning, Coursera, etc.). Workshops, face-to-face trainings are regularly offered to specific target audiences in virtual and onsite formats. UN Volunteers also benefit from peer-to-peer learning activities, webinars and individual coaching opportunities. In support of its UN partners, donors and other stakeholders CDT also delivers capacity development and learning programmes tailored to specific initiatives.
Institutional Arrangement
The Learning Analyst reports to the Team Leader, Capacity Development, and works closely with the rest of the CDT and as a member of the Human Resources Section. For specific projects, they may also report to the Learning Specialist in the team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Scope of Work
Design, development and implementation of learning projects
- Training needs analysis at the start of the project, in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts.
- Define design concept, course evaluation strategy, and coordinate to ensure approval by all stakeholders and partners.
- Coordinate content production and ensure validation by all stakeholders.
- Design learning programme according to the prototyping principles, and using participatory learning approaches to enhance knowledge and skills unique to each learning activity.
- Perform overall project management, including communication, timeline management, quality, and scope control (content, budget, timelines, and objectives).
- Recommend improvement of existing training plans and methodologies in line with UNV’s broader capacity building objectives.
- Maintain and update facilitators’ guides and support materials.
Delivery/Facilitation of learning events
- Facilitate / co-facilitate in person, virtual and blended learning events in close cooperation with subject matter experts and the capacity development team
- Plan allocation of service providers / consultants schedule for timely delivery of learning events in close collaboration with Capacity Development Associate / Procurement.
- Coordinate and communicate with co-facilitators to finalize event objectives, agenda and methodologies leading up to the event.
- Manage, deliver and/or record face-to-face and virtual events including promotion of event, communication with stakeholders, coordination of participant registration and attendance.
- Coordinate logistic and administrative arrangements including on technical aspects and act as a problem-solving focal point for emerging issues to ensure the smooth delivery of learning events.
- Design and facilitate online and in-person Training of Trainers.
Design, production and implementation of e-learning content and courses
- Design a concept framework for each course, specifying the course curriculum and organization of modules in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts.
- Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts to finalize content suitable for e-learning design (e.g., examples, cases, good practices, testimonials) while maintaining and developing necessary processes, templates, standards, and guidelines/resources.
- Develop a storyboard for the interactive e-learning course modules including multimedia objects, and formative and summative assessments.
- Manage and coordinate the editing and proofreading processes.
- Implement interactive lessons using authoring tools, graphic design programmes, microlearning (e.g. videos, podcasts, micro- and nano-courses) elements, and available LMS (Moodle) functionalities.
- Finalize the design of the modules including localization and testing, ensuring compliance with UNV quality standards, quality assurance process, and accessibility guidelines.
- Design and implement learning paths when needed, assembling and/or creating various activities and resources.
- In collaboration with the Learning Specialist, review the UNV online learning programmes and make recommendations on the terms and conditions of eligibility and usage by UN Volunteers.
Evaluation of learning events and courses
- In collaboration with the Team Lead, CDT, define objectives at different evaluation levels.
- In collaboration with the Team Lead, CDT, draft surveys for pre, during and post-training assessments, accounting for level 1-4 learning evaluation when possible.
- Perform data collection, analysis, reporting and make evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
- Draft reports on learning events and other areas as required.
