Background

UNDP has been working in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development. Together with the Government of India and development partners, we have worked towards eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities, strengthening local governance, enhancing community resilience, protecting the environment, supporting policy initiatives and institutional reforms, and accelerating sustainable development for all.

The Energy, Environment and Resilience (EER) Unit at UNDP is organized around the thematic areas of climate change adaptation and mitigation; natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, disaster management and resilience, and access to clean and efficient energy.

The Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration programme of UNDP is supporting the Government of India in meeting national development objectives along with commitments under important multilateral environment agreements especially the Convention on Biological Diversity. The technical and policy support provided by the programme focus on institutional strengthening and building capacities to utilize natural resources in a sustainable way, while increasing resilience to climate variability and associated risks and impacts.

To ensure effective and timely communication and engagements with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences, UNDP needs to create a series of collateral packages and focus on enhancing its brand visibility through its various communication initiatives on biodiversity conservation, resilience and climate change. Keeping these requirements in mind, UNDP seeks the services of a graphic design intern to strengthen communications in the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration programme.

The intern will be responsible for developing high quality content and will be responsible for adapting, editing, et al, of communication products for dissemination through project and state teams. The intern will be reporting to Strategic Design and Innovation Officer, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of Strategic Design and Innovation Officer, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration programme, the intern is expected to: 

  • Create engaging digital/print content, including graphics, brochure, publications, Gifs, posts, stories, etc.
  • Create social media designs according to platforms and experiment with thumbstoppers
  • Provide assistance to the state/project team with designing collaterals;
  • Support the team to prepare short write up/communication for dissemination;
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations, visual representations, infographics as required;
  • Support in planning and curation of events and campaigns.
  • Work with the team to ideate and design communication collaterals
  • Any other task as advised by the team

Required Skills and Experience

 

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree/diploma programme in environment science, natural resources management, ecosystem restoration, wetlands management, sustainable development, or a related field;

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a relevant first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Skills:

  • Ability to generate design collaterals with quick turn around time
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premier, Final Cut and/or other tools used for graphic design.
  • Experience in designing websites
  • Good skills in video editing, basic knowledge of motion graphic design is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of current affairs and interest in development challenges
  • Experience in writing blogs, features, articles would be an asset.
  • Good team player and ability to adapt to change in work environment

Language:

  •  Fluency in English, while understanding of Hindi is desirable
