Background

UNDP first became active in Uzbekistan in 1993 and has over subsequent decades implemented hundreds of projects alongside the national government, business, civil society and academic. The directions of UNDP’s work in Uzbekistan reflect the current UN Country Programme Document (CPD) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2021-2025. They also align with the national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda, and Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy for 2017-2021. Throughout 2020 UNDP helped address the national health and socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and is continuing to actively assist in Uzbekistan’s inclusive, green recovery. UNDP has been active in more than 170 countries and territories around the world, helping eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities and increase inclusion. In Uzbekistan, UNDP has its main office in the capital of Tashkent city, and secondary offices in the cities of Nukus and Namangan. Three current directions of work include ‘Inclusive and Democratic Governance’, ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Growth’, and ‘Climate and Disaster Resilience’. The UNDP Operations Unit provides operational support services to the UNDP Projects as well as other UN Agencies in the area of Human Resources, Finance, Procurement and General Administration. This internship assignment will support the Operations Unit and Environment and Climate Change Cluster.

Position purpose

The intern will assist the Operations Unit (Procurement, Finance, IT and Admin/Finance Units) and Environment and Climate Change Cluster by providing support to one of the unit of the Operations/Clusterensuring high quality of work, accurate, timely and properly recorded/documented service delivery. The intern promotes a client-oriented and consistent with rules and regulations approach n the Unit. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining proper filing of the Unit/Cluster papers and sort, classify and file documentation according to guidelines such as content, purpose, user criteria, or chronological, alphabetical, or numerical order;
  • Assist with archiving: prepare procurement materials for archiving, register the archived files, update the register of archived file; 
  • Maintain the document flow within the Unit/Cluster;
  • Perform ad hoc inspections of materials or files in order to ensure correct placement,legibility, and proper condition;
  •  Perform ad hoc clerical assignment as required;
  •  Performs other duties as required.

Institutional Arrangement

The Intern works in close collaboration with the Management Support and Business Development, Programme, Operations teams and projects’ staff in the CO staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

(a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) in finance, economy, procurement, logistics, ICT or other related fields;

(b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

Min. years of relevant Work experience

Demonstrated interest and/or experience in operations procedures (administration, procurement, IT, finance) and projects/programmes implementation.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

Fluency in English, proficiency in Uzbek. Good command of Russian is desirable
