Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Sudan is part of the UN System and as such work closely with other UN agencies and international cooperation to implement its mandate of gender coordination in development interventions in support of the attainment of the SDG. UN Women Sudan has a historical partnership with women’s groups and CSO, which are instrumental in the actions and advocacy to promote Gender equality and Women’s empowerment. UN Women’s interventions in Violence Against Women and Girls program is associated with the Women, Peace and Security portfolio, as part of the 1325 resolution implementation in Sudan. UN Women is focusing on Building national partners capacities and promoting normative and policy frameworks to address VAWG in Sudan. Promoting income generating activities for women and their active participation in the public-private dialogue activities is also a one of the strategies used by UN Women to positively contribute to the reduction of sexual and gender-based violence (S/GBV) and mitigate its harmful effects to ensure women and girls in Sudan live free from VAWG, in healthy and productive communities.

UN Women seek to contract a consultant to elaborate and produce one creative/inspiring professionally video for TV and social media.

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the UN Women Program Specialist and in close collaboration with Communications Associate, the selected consultant will be responsible for production of one creative/inspiring professionally video spots in Arabic with subtitles in English.

Duties and Responsibilities

Following UN Women’s AUDIOVISUAL products guidelines and under the direct guidance and supervision of the Program Specialist, the video director will undertake the following key tasks:

  1. Development of a script for the video and identifying jointly with UN Women team a list of interviewees based on general concept provided by UN Women, the consultant, also, should be flexible to accept comments and address them in due time.
  2. Filming the video: The consultancy should be responsible to overall coordination video, production process: setting the necessary equipment, filming process, arranging the filming location.
  3. Presenting the draft video and voice sample to UN Women Sudan, based on received feedback, the consultant will be responsible for further revision and adjusting of the video, provide all post-production supports, editing, mixing, transitions, titles, disclaimer, credits, and effects.
  4. The consultant is responsible for ensuring the high quality of filming, video editing with English subtitles.
  5. Presenting the final versions of the video to UN Women with English subtitles.
  6. Video should be submitted both in highest resolution (MP4 format and Full HD resolution), as well as in all the appropriate format and size for broadcasting on the relevant communication, gateways: social media channels, websites, and TV stations.

Inputs

  • UN Women will provide the consultant with background materials for the project as well as a list of interview questions and interviewees,
  • The consultant is expected to work using her/his own equipment’s and computers, The cost of any supplies, materials, translation, printing etc. should be covered by the consultant.
  • The consultant will be required to provide all equipment and resourcing required to ensure the high quality, all production requirements including any scripting and editing, filming.

Copyright

  • UN Women reserves the copyright of the produced material.
  • UN Women shall be permitted to use the video without a time limit.
  • Contractor may be allowed to use the video only in their portfolios and with UN Women’s written permission.
  • Written consent from UN Women will be required before the contractor moves any video on the wire or uploads them in any website.
  • UN Women can provide the video to other UN organizations or the media at no cost, as is the practice.

All the documents, including the interview tools, all video footage and images materials and reports should be submitted in written English language. Note that all video footage and images will remain property of UN Women and cannot be used without UN Women’s permission.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education and certification:
  • Minimum University Degree in art, social sciences or any other related field
  • Diploma in Film Studies/Film Production/Photography will be an added advantage.
  • Relevant degree/diploma/certification in translation will be an advantage.

Experience:

  • Over 2 years of experience in video and photography editing, conceptualization, scripting, editing and basic motion graphics and illustration skills.
  • Ability to create engaging, simplified content through photography, animation and live action.
  • Experience in scripting, story boarding and creating films for the development sector.
  • A sound understanding of recording and documenting online conversations.
  • Ability to work in close coordination with other team members.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
