It is essential that Afghan women and girls can continue to shape the development of their country, and that their gains are protected. UN Women has been in Afghanistan for two decades. UN Women’s programming approach is informed by analysis of the political, economic and humanitarian situation, risks to and capacities of partner organizations, and needs of Afghan women and girls. UN Women Afghanistan currently has four key programme priorities: (1) Gender in Humanitarian Action, (2) Ending Violence Against Women, (3) Women’s Economic Empowerment, and (4) Women, Peace and Security.
Reporting to the Programme Manager- Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW), the Programme Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the EVAW portfolio; with a specific focus on prevention programming, providing advisory and programme development services to the Strategic programme direction, overseeing programme coordination and leading policy development. She/he will have budgetary and professional responsibility within the programme. The position engaged with key partners on programme related issues and initiatives. Review programme and donor reports. Leads high-level advocacy initiatives and knowledge management. Provides guidance and vision on technical capacity development. The Programme Specialist is also responsible for ensuring synergies of various programmes and initiatives in the office, where applicable.
Duties and Responsibilities
2. Manage the implementation and management of EVAW projects
3. Manage technical assistance and capacity development to project partners
4. Manage the monitoring and reporting of the EVAW projects
5. Manage the people and financial resources of the EVAW projects
6. Build partnerships and support in developing resource mobilization strategies
7. Contribute to inter-agency coordination on EVAW to achieve coherence and alignment of UN Women programmes with other partners in the country
8. Manage advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts, especially on Primary Prevention
