Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world.  

The Communications section supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues on the international agenda and establishes UN Women’s role as the global authority in this context. 

The Communications section seeks to enlist the services of an Audiovisual Consultant on a full-time basis to produce and edit impactful video content with a focus on social media-first videos, as well as to support the functioning of the audiovisual portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of UN Women’s Audiovisual Specialist, the Audiovisual Consultant will be responsible for: 

 

Original video content pre-production, production and post-production (70%): 

  • Work with the Audiovisual Specialist to commission, oversee, or undertake production of external-facing video products around key communications priorities;  

  • Work with the Audiovisual and Social Media Specialists to create original, engaging social-first video content for UN Women’s global social media channels in line with new trends and best practices; 

  • Research, script and produce video content in line with corporate messaging; 

  • Conduct in-person and remote video shoots as needed during the consultancy period; 

  • Liaise with production vendors to ensure alignment with UN Women branding and product delivery within budget and deadline;  

  • Export and support dissemination of video content to appropriate channels, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube.  

 

Support to the AV portfolio (30%):  

  • Support implementation of UN Women’s Corporate Video Guidelines and Video Branding Guidelines; 

  • Review and respond to audiovisual inquiries from HQ, field offices, and external vendors, providing technical guidance on original content production in a timely manner;  

  • Perform research and outreach to source appropriate footage and visual materials on gender equality-related topics for UN Women productions, and to fulfill requests from within the UN system, external media, filmmakers, etc.;  

  • Support the logging and proper backing up of footage and videos in UN Women’s video archive.  

Competencies

Functional: 

  • Expertise in different video formats, trends and best practices for online and social media platforms; A strong portfolio of social media-first videos created for Instagram and/or TikTok will be an asset; 

  • Demonstrated experience in researching, writing and planning video products; 

  • Experience in project management and/or production coordination;  

  • Ability to film high-quality video and audio: HD 1920x1080 or better; 

  • Working knowledge of professional lighting equipment and setups for video interviews; 

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop; 

  • Teamwork, professionalism and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. 

Required Skills and Experience

  • CV must include a link to a consolidated online portfolio highlighting relevant video work with roles specified, OR links to specific video pieces with roles specified. Applications without links to previous work samples will not be considered. 

  • Master’s degree in journalism, filmmaking or related field 

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in video production, multimedia journalism or filmmaking 

  • A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience and a strong video portfolio may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree 

  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of other UN languages (French, Spanish, Arabic) an asset 

  • Experience working in an international organization (e.g. non-profit, UN system, etc.) an asset
