Background 

UN Women Bangladesh office is seeking a qualified international editor to provide English editing services for English documents, research, and studies. 

 

Objective of the Consultancy 

Under the direct supervision of UN Women Communications Analyst, selected editors will provide quality English editing services in support of UN Women’s needs. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific tasks of Editors 

 

Reporting directly to the Manager of the relevant Programme Unit/Communications Analyst/Deputy Country Representative that requires editing services, selected editors are responsible for the following: 

 

- Copy-editing, revising and rewriting as needed and formatting to produce high quality, reader-friendly, accessible, timely, results-based donor reports, study/research/event reports, stories, and other documents and materials aligned with UN editorial guidelines and UN Women's established standards and formats. 

 

Duration of assignment 

Maximum 30 days of services will be required from 01 August 2023 to 31July 2025. The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, which facilitates direct engagement of the consultant depending on need and availability within the contract period for a pre-agreed fee. 

 

Each time there is a document that requires editing, the consultant will be contacted on her/his availability. Number of days required for each assignment will vary, depending on the length and quality of the draft document.  

 

Deliverables 

Reports and other documents and materials that reflect high quality, result- based standard and format established by UN Women. 

 

 

Supervision and Performance Evaluation: 

The consultant will undertake the tasks under the supervision and guidance of the Communication Analyst /Programme Analyst/ Programme Specialist/Deputy Country Representative of UN Women Bangladesh. 

 

Input

The consultant is expected to work with his or her own device. No office space or device will be provided for this assignment.

 

 

Travel and DSA

No DSA will be paid at the duty station. If unforeseen travel outside the duty station is required for this assignment, upon prior agreement/approval from UN Women such travel expenses shall be borne by UNWOMEN and the individual contractor/SSA shall receive a per-diem not to exceed the United Nations daily subsistence allowance (DSA) rate in such other location(s) and actual travel cost.

 

Contract Type: 

UN Women does not warrant that the maximum of 30 days. The service will be purchased during the term of the Agreement under the “Retainer Contract” under SSA policy. 

 

Payment milestone linked with deliverables: 

Daily professional fees- Lum sump daily basis

Required Skills and Experience

Educational Qualification 

  • Minimum master's degree in one or more of the following disciplines: social sciences, international development, and/or communications, or bachelor’s degree in those fields with 10 years relevant work experience.  

 

Experince: 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in writing, editing, reporting, and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats and styles. 
  • Track record writing high-quality reports and communication products of publication quality. 
  • Track record of writing results-based management and donor report.
  • Experience editing documents related to gender and development issues is an asset. 
  • Experience working for a UN agency is an asset
  • Excellent writing skills in English. 

 

Price Proposal and Schedule of Payments

Consultant must send a financial proposal based on Lump Sum Amount. The total amount quoted shall be all-inclusive and include all
costs components required to perform the deliverables identified in the TOR, including professional fee, only  and any other applicable cost to be incurred by the SSA in completing the assignment.

The contract price will be fixed output-based price regardless of extension of the herein specified duration. Payments will be done upon
completion of the deliverables/outputs and as per below percentages

 

Evaluation Method and Criteria:

Individual consultants will be evaluated based on the following methodology.

Cumulative analysis-

The award of the contract will be made to the individual consultant up on Cumulative Analysis/evaluation and determined as:
1. Responsive/compliant/acceptable; and
2. Having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the
solicitation;

Only candidates obtaining a minimum 70 mark in technical evaluation will be considered eligible for financial evaluation.
Technical Criteria for Evaluation (Maximum 49 points out of 70)

 

  • Criteria-01; Educational Qualification and other qualification - Max Point 10
  • Criteria-02; Work experience in editing. - Max Point 20
  • Criteria-03; Experience working on documents related to gender and development issues and other issues relevant to UN Wome. -Max Point 20
  • Criteria-04; Quality or sample document- Max Point 20

 

The total number of points allocated for the technical qualification component is 70. The technical qualification of the individual is evaluated based on following technical qualification evaluation criteria:

Only the candidates who have attained a minimum of 70% of total points (49) will be considered as technically-qualified candidate.

  • Full medical examination and Statement of Fitness to work and travel for consultants with travel involved. (This is not a requirement for RLA contracts);

  • Individual subscribers over 65 years of age are required to undergo a full medical examination including x-rays at their own cost and obtaining medical clearance from the UN Medical Director prior to taking up their assignment;
  • Release letter in case the selected consultant is government official.
