Historique

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Research and Data Section in the Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division is responsible for leading UN Women’s research and data agenda. The section produces UN Women’s flagship publications, including Progress of the World’s Women (Progress), The World Survey on the Role of Women in Development (World Survey), and Gender Equality in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also leads on research and reporting that feeds into normative processes. Recent examples include the Secretary General reports submitted to the Commission on the Status of Women for consideration during its 63rd (social protection systems) and 64th (review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action) sessions.

In 2023/2024, the Research and Data Section will be developing a new edition of the World Survey with a thematic focus on “Harnessing Social Protection for Gender Equality, Resilience and Transformation”.
