Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world.  

The Communications section supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues on the international agenda and establishes UN Women’s role as the global authority in this context. 

The Communications section seeks to enlist the services of a Social Media Video Producer on a full-time basis to produce and edit impactful social media-first videos, as well as to support other video needs for the Communications team.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of UN Women’s Audiovisual and Social Media Specialists, the Social Media Video Producer will be responsible for: 

 

Original social media video content pre-production, production and post-production (70%): 

  • Work with the Audiovisual and Social Media Specialists to create original, engaging social-first video content for UN Women’s global social media channels (TikTok, Instagram in particular) in line with new trends and best practices; 

  • Research and write scripts for social-first video content in line with corporate messaging; 

  • Conduct in-person filming with UN Women personnel and other stakeholders, capturing high quality video footage optimized for social media platform(s);  

  • Create filming briefs, scripts and templates to support UN Women personnel and other stakeholders to record themselves as needed, both in person and remotely;  

  • Perform research and outreach to source appropriate footage and visual materials on gender equality-related topics for UN Women videos, ensuring proper licensing and permissions per UN Women production practices;  

  • Edit videos to ensure high quality, alignment with corporate branding and make use of platform-specific tools, trends and conventions for optimal engagement on social platforms; 

  • Export and support dissemination of video content to appropriate channels, including Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube.  

 

Video production support (30%):  

  • Pitch new video concepts and approaches to support UN Women’s global communications priorities; 

  • Support on monitoring, analyzing and reporting on social video engagement to inform content strategies; 

  • Provide technical guidance to field offices and HQ on social media video production and optimization; 

  • Support on the creation of social media video templates for field offices and HQ; 

  • Liaise with production vendors as needed to ensure alignment with UN Women branding and channel optimization; 

  • Support implementation of UN Women’s Corporate Video Guidelines and Video Branding Guidelines in all video products; 

  • Provide other video production and editing support, as needed.  

Competencies

Competencies:  

 

Functional: 

  • Expertise in short form video content, trends and best practices for online and social media platforms;  

  • A strong portfolio of social media-first videos created for Instagram and/or TikTok is required; 

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop; 

  • Proficient in professional video production practices, including mobile production; 

  • Proficient in in-app video editing for TikTok and Instagram; 

  • Demonstrated experience in researching, writing and planning video products; 

  • Experience in project management and/or production coordination is desirable;  

  • Working knowledge of professional lighting equipment and setups for video interviews is a plus; 

  • Teamwork, professionalism and communication skills.

  • Interest in the UN system and general knowledge of development issues and gender equality; 

  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability; 

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Applicants’ CVs must include links to examples of at least 3 relevant and recent social media-first videos with their own role in the productions clearly specified. Applications without links to previous work samples will not be considered and we expect to see at least one of the following types of content: 

  • TikTok video example 

  • Instagram Reel example 

  • Master’s degree in communications, journalism, filmmaking or related field 

  • At least 5 years of professional experience producing social media video 

  • A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience and a strong video portfolio may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree 

  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of other UN languages (French, Spanish, Arabic) an asset 

  • Experience working in an international organization (e.g. non-profit, UN system, etc.) an asset 

  • Availability to work in person in NYC on an ongoing basis is required.
