UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

 

The Communications and Advocacy section at UN Women Headquarters in New York seeks to enlist the services of a Graphic Design Consultant to support the production of visual assets, especially for the use of social media.

 

This consultant assignment may be undertaken on a Home Based/Remote basis. However, availability to work daily during New York core hours (10 am to 4 pm EST) is required.

Under the supervision of the Social Media Specialist, the Visual Communication Consultant will be responsible for: 

 

Social Media Visual Communication (70 %)

 

  • Provide social media graphic design, templates, video creation, and photo editing (e.g GIFs, animated short videos, infographics, illustrations, quote cards, illustrated explainers) that are tailored to UN Women social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and TikTok).
  • Develop social media asset templates from scratch for use on all UN Women social media channels. The designs should accurately reflect the UN Women brand and those of special projects and initiatives and be created for the global social media accounts of UN Women and its partners globally to increase consistency visually.
  • Work closely with the in-house photo editor and UN Women communications colleagues across the world to identify strong photos for use on social media. Edit and resize images and prepare quote cards and creative visuals that are tailored for UN Women corporate social media platforms.
  • Create short, animated motion graphics and GIFs for social media.
  • Develop infographics, data cards, illustrated explainers, and other forms of data visualization.
  • Work closely with the in-house Audio-Visual Team on developing novel ideas for video content for social media. Create graphic elements for use on social media videos.
  • Work in collaboration with the HQ audio visual team to create and tailor videos for social media platforms.

 

Editorial design (30 %)

 

  • Provide illustrations and layout for high-priority organizational communication products.
  • Provide branding guidance on different design products.
  • Create templates for print design.

 

Deliverables: 

 

  • Engaging social media assets are produced.
  • Complex concepts of gender empowerment are translated into to appealing communication products.
  • UN Women branding guidelines are consistently applied to all social media products.
  • Editorial design is provided for key communication products.

Qualifications et expériences requises

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in one of the following or related fields: Media/Graphic Design, Communication Design, Design Management, Graphic or Visual Communication, Communication or External Relations
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in a communication role with a focus on visual communication; preferably with previous experience of working on issues related to social justice, women’s empowerment, and human rights.
  • Experience with the professional use of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator Premiere and After Effects. In-depth familiarity with creating Canva templates.
  • Ability to generate and implement creative and innovative digital design ideas.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Proven track record of developing high-impact digital illustrations, visuals, GIFs and stickers global social media use.
  • Knowledge of the latest visual design standards and trends.
  • Excellent time management, forward planning, and prioritization skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a global communication team.
  • Proven track record of working with strong attention to detail.
  • Organized, responsible and able to prioritize and balance multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work as part of a global communication team.
  • Familiarity with image licensing and rights is considered an asset.

Fluency in English is required. Spanish and French are considered an asset.
