Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division (PPID) provides global programming and policy support to allow UN Women offices at Headquarters and in all field locations to deliver effective and efficient initiatives to support the implementation of UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and internationally agreed goals on gender equality and women’s empowerment, including the Beijing Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Division provides intellectual and strategic leadership on normative support and the delivery of integrated policy advice, including through policy analysis and gender mainstreaming. It also leverages innovation, knowledge management, and cutting-edge technical expertise to support UN Women programmes and to build the capacity of partners to deliver results on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The work of UN Women’s Ending Violence against Women (EVAW) Section is focused on a comprehensive approach to ending violence against women that addresses legislation and policies, prevention, services for survivors, research and data, in public and private spaces. Knowledge management is an integral part of this work, especially generating, systematizing and sharing cutting-edge knowledge both internally and externally on ending violence against women, as part of fostering learning and innovation.
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Section, the successful consultant will be primarily responsible for managing ongoing research and analysis on EVAW, e.g., development of the EVAW Impact Report, and supporting knowledge management and communication activities within the current Section work plan. S/he may be supported by 1-2 junior consultants and interns. The EVAW Section Administrative, Budget and Finance Consultant will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.

| 10 July 2024 | - Identify, as relevant, emerging issues, cutting-edge knowledge and approaches on the elimination of VAWG, using diverse formats to monitor, evaluate and communicate results e.g., through compendium of practice, case studies, training modules, video documentation, policy briefs, blogs, etc. for diverse stakeholders.

Support in the establishment and strengthening of strategic partnerships in the area of EVAW, internally and externally, and particularly in the areas of institutional change, EVAW research, monitoring and evaluation: | | - Identify strategic opportunities to link and strengthen EVAW programming, especially focused in the area of institutional change with internal and external partners, including but not limited to: SDGs, New Urban Agenda, Generation Equality Action Coalitions etc.
| 10 July 2024 | - Build and strengthen partnerships with research institutions, universities or other networks involved in communicating results on the evidence-based programming in ending violence against women, in close collaboration with the EVAW specialists in the EVAW section, and the EVAW regional advisors.
| 10 July 2024 | - Strengthen synergies between EVAW and other thematic areas/priorities of UN Women e.g., women’s economic empowerment, women’s leadership etc., both internally and externally, as well as with the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, to contribute to an evidence-based corporate approach to EVAW.

Required Skills and Experience
Education and Certification:
- Master degree (or equivalent) in international development, social sciences, gender/women’s studies, public policy, human rights or other related social science field;
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in designing and managing programmes and doing policy research and advocacy for the elimination of violence against women, including in the areas of knowledge management, monitoring, evaluating and communicating results, ideally with some experience in global south countries;
- Substantive knowledge of and experience on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues;
- Experience working with and building partnerships with governments, donors and civil society organizations internationally and in the field;
- Experience working with the UN is an asset.
Languages:
- Written and oral proficiency in English is required;
Knowledge of another UN working language is an asset.
