Background

UNDP Jordan's 2023-2027 country programme seeks to support national efforts in enhancing people’s resilience in Jordan through robust interventions that increase people's equal access to sustainable resources, enhance green growth opportunities, and advance democratic governance, implementing a portfolio approach cutting across three outcomes focused on systematic transformation in three priority areas: (a) prosperous and productive people; (b) green and safe future pathways for climate action; and (c) holistic and transformative systems/policies and capacities across all sectors. In 2019, UNDP with funding from the Ministry of Environment/Badia Restoration Program and in collaboration with the Jordan Cooperative Corporation commenced the The “Improving livelihoods of Sheep owners in the Jordan Badia through Enhancing Sheep Wool Saleability and Profitability” project aiming at promoting Sustainable Livelihoods in Jordan Badia through enhancing production and quality of sheep wool. The strategy to achieve the goal has four interlinked components; Establishment of Shearing Service; Establishment of Collection Centers (Hubs) Facilities; Enhancing domestic Use of the Sheared Wool and Provision of necessary Training and Awareness.

A major component of this project is the establishment of the wool collection hub in Al Qutrana, which will centralize the processing and distribution of the sheared sheep wool collected from all three Badia regions (Northern, Middle and Southern). The role of driver is crucial for ensuring efficient and effective transportation and logistics management of wool from collection points in the Badia regions to the hub.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Driver will assume the responsibility of logistical aspects of the wool collection, ensuring efficient and effective transportation of sheared wool from multiple locations in the Badia regions to the central hub in Al Qutrana. This role is critical for maintaining the integrity and timely processing of the wool, which is essential for the success of the project. The driver shall ensure the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues, navigating rural and potentially challenging terrains to reach remote areas.

Functions/ Key results expected:

I. Proper book-keeping for driving related logs and transportation:

- Assists in compiling paperwork related to government relations transactions

- Scanning and e-filing of documents related to vehicles transactions (Eg: insurance, car registrations, letters, etc…)

- Ensures availability of all required vehicle documents including insurance, logs, office directory, maps, first aid kit, necessary spare parts, etc

II. Proper maintenance of driving and vehicle related issues:

- Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.

- Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents

- Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by driving UNDP truck from/to the wool collection hub.

- Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle though accurate upkeep of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs from vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

III. Setup mechanisms for wool delivery:

- Develops and implements a fair and transparent mechanism for collecting wool, which may involve scheduling pickups, confirming quantities, and ensuring equitable service to all participating owners.

- Ensures efficient and safe transport of wool, adhere to schedules, and minimal downtime of transportation resources.

IV. Any other activity required by the supervisor

- Be prepared to respond to and manage unforeseen situations or delays while on the road, ensuring minimal impact on the project's operations. - Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor, given the nature of the project.

Institutional Arrangement

The driver will perform his/her tasks under the supervision of the Projects Coordination Specialist at the Sustainable Green Pathways and Inclusive Growth Portfolio at UNDP Jordan Country Office, He/she will be based at the Wool Collection Hub at Al Qutrana, and will be working closely with concerned teams of UNDP JO and partners.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Qualifications of the Successful NPSA

Min. Education requirements

A completion of a secondary education is required with working experience as a driver in the Badia Region, safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

 

Min. years of relevant work experience

A minimum of 3 years (with secondary school degree) or 0 year (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience as a driver in the Badia Region, safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair is required.
