Background

Under the funding of the European Union, the programme UNDP - “Partnership for the Future” (PFF)(www.undp-pff.org) has the ultimate goal, inter alia, to support the economic and social development of the Turkish Cypriot Community (TCC) via private sector development projects.
 
The European Union is currently engaged in programming further support to the Turkish-Cypriot private sector in order to facilitate their integration into the EU market. In this regard, the UNDP-PFF has been requested to support this process by carrying out needs - sectoral based - assessments with the aim of providing valuable inputs to the EU programming.
 
The following sectors have been identified as critical in terms of sustainable development, job creation and income generation for the TCC:
  • Organic farming
  • Energy Efficiency
  • ICT
  • CE marking
  • SMEs grant scheme

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the UNDP-PFF Programme Manager, the specialist will be requested to carry out the following duties:
 
  • Take stock of the current status of development of organic farming in the TCC by reviewing existing initiatives;
  • Get acquainted with all relevant stakeholders in the area of organic farming in the TCC by spending five working days in Cyprus;
  • Formulate a project fiche (including identification of budget and logical framework) based on the EU template addressing the needs of the organic farming sector in the TCC in accordance with the Acquis Communautaire and international best practices by 15 July 2010;

Required Skills and Experience

The candidate should possess:
  • Relevant working experience in the area of organic farming;
  • Familiarity with EU project development practices;
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of Turkish would be an added advantage.
