Background

The ‘Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Territorial Planning Policies and Practicies’ project was launched in partnership of the GEF and UNDP. The  project commenced to operate in integration of biological and landscape conservation priorities into territorial planning policies and practices.

The project will remove systemic, regulatory and knowledge barriers to mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into territorial planning.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development and realization of the project’s communication strategy on promotion of the project’s goals and objectives towards stakeholders and the general public
  • Development and maintenance of partner relations with Belarusian local and national media, as well as foreign and international media resources (newspapers, magazines, TVs, radios, news agencies, Web news resources) on profound and broad coverage of the project’s results and achievements in the local, national and international media spaces .
  • Preparation and dissemination of information on the project experience, results and achievements at the local, national and international levels ( preparation and contribution to press-releases, articles in printed and e-media, specialized donors/partners information and promotion issues)
  • Development of close co-operation with mass media through organizing visits of national and foreign journalists to project sites
  • Keeping track of the project publications in printed and web-based media.
  • Maintenance and development of new partnerships with  interested state institutions, alike initiatives in Belarus and abroad , civil society groups and business organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of project’s objectives
  • Preparation of information materials (posters, leaflets, brochures, etc.) to disseminate project best practices and lessons learned
  • Preparation of the project visibility items
  • Preparation of text and presentation materials for interviews, press-conferences, briefings, other public actions which are made by the Project Manager
  • Development of PR-ideas, original news ideas and public events which are realized in the framework of the project activities (seminars, round tables, briefings, etc.) and in cooperation with other projects
  • Regular informational support of the project web-site, communication of the information on the project results to be placed on the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection web-site
  • Translation/interpretation of the project materials from/to English/Russian in case of necessity.
  • Participation in preparing reporting documents within the project in English and Russian

Information Officer  will report to Project Manager and Project Coordinator.

Competencies

  • Knowledge in national legislation on advertising and mass-media;
  • Knowledge of planning principles, methods of organization and practical experience of PR-campaigns (preparation of press-releases, informational messages, carrying briefings, press-conferences, round tables);
  • Advanced PC user.

Required Skills and Experience

  • University degree in Linguistics or Communications or International Studies required;
  • 2 years of experience in the field of Public Relations and mass-media;
  • Good command of Russian and English (both written and spoken);
  • Belarusian would be an asset;
  • Work experience in international organizations/projects would be an asset.
