Antecedentes

UNDP’s Bratislava Regional Centre (BRC) has been publishing the Development and Transition (www.developmentandtransition.net) regional research bulletin since 2005. Development and Transition serves as a platform for disseminating UNDP and independent views on key issues of development, and transition in the region covered by UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS (RBEC). In this regard, Development and Transition performs:

  • an external communications function, bringing UNDP’s development philosophy, and the results of its programming and research, to the attention of partners and other external readers; and
  • an internal communications function, informing UNDP staff working in the RBEC region about these issues.

The core of Development and Transition has traditionally been its PDF bulletin, which has been published 2-4 times annually in both English and Russian. Its value added lies in part in its thematic orientation, allowing for the synergistic presentation of the articles published (on a common theme) in each issue. Publication of each issue is followed by its presentation at a launch forum, typically a conference or other regional meeting devoted to the topic(s) explored in that issue.

Since 2010, Development and Transition has been repositioned as a web-based UNDP regional knowledge portal, with blogs and other forms of interactive, frequently updated content, and which is more closely aligned with UNDP other regional web pages, particularly the UNDP-RBEC regional webpage (http://europeandcis.undp.org/), UNDP’s regional knowledge management and communications activities, and the work of the RBEC senior economist’s office (http://europeandcis.undp.org/senioreconomist).
