| The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Finding long-term and sustainable solutions to chronic hunger is also a part of the WFP mandate. The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger located in Brazil was launched in November 2011 and has been created as international centre of excellence. The Centre is a partnership between WFP and the Brazilian government, and its aim is to promote south to south cooperation, and provide support to governments in Africa, Asia and Latin America in capacity development in the areas of School Feeding, Nutrition and Food Security. The Centre is an innovation that seeks to respond government demands for technical support to strengthen their national capacities and knowledge on sustainable school feeding and to support them in the design and management of healthy and sustainable national school feeding and other hunger programmes. The WFP Centre supports 18 countries and host study visits. The Communication& Reports Officer will be under the overall supervisor of the Centre’s Director and will report directly to the Deputy Director, and also will receive technical guidance/support from the Regional Public Information Officer and related HQ Public Information Unit(s).

Duties and Responsibilities |
|
| Under the guidance of the Centre’s management and the technical division(s), the main responsibilities of the Communication/Reports Officer is: 1) to promote the WFP Centre to internal and external stakeholders; 2) contribute to the development of effective communication strategies and materials; 3) production of reports around the Centre’s activities; 4) produce all communications and reports pertaining to the Centre’s study visit programme and other activities. The incumbent will draft the Centre’s publications and reports, implement the communication strategies and also be responsible for managing online publications, webpage content, and social media. Key Functions: • Support the design and implementation of communications strategies in order to generate greater awareness, understanding and support for school feeding and hunger solutions and the work of the Centre in south-south cooperation; • Advise Centre’s staff at all levels of potential impact of press activities and statements; • Prepare and edit texts for news releases, feature articles, briefing notes, backgrounders, Questions & Answers (Q&A) and other materials for use in the media and distribution to the public, educational institutions, non-governmental agencies, government and UN partners, and donors; • Respond to Centre’s demand for content generation by accompanying field study visits and preparing information for public release on Centre’s activities, and preparing all needed materials for internal and external use, particularly multimedia materials; • Assist and contribute to the study visit planning and preparation focusing on the communication and public information aspects; • Ensure Centre’s webpage and online profile is updated regularly and is further developed incorporating the use of social media. Monitor hits and advise on potential actions. • Ensure that communications activities promote an accurate image of the organization and its programs amongst its targeted audiences; • Support outsourcing companies on the preparation of a wide range of multi-media products, including audio and visual materials, and handle the growing demands of the Centre’s website for such products; • Establish and maintain list of media representatives contact and handle media inquiries. • Ensure that responses to direct or indirect requests for information about the work of the Centre promote a better understanding of the organization’s objectives, policies and activities; • Ensure WFP staff are informed in a timely and transparent manner about the Centre’s/ WFP’s policies, strategies, activities and corporate developments; • Coordinate reporting activities; • Monitor and review regular sources of information and data required for preparation of reports, • Assist in the preparation, writing and editing of all other reports required by Headquarters; • Prepare donor reports as required • Perform other related duties as required. Impact of Results: Provides contribution to the both WFP and the Centre public communication efforts in Brazil through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s). Consistently applies appropriate policies, guidelines and procedures. Effectively, and in a timely manner, liaises and interacts with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally.

Education: Experience: - -Proven experience with Brazilian social programmes, such as PNAE, PAA, and/or Bolsa Família is required. -Experience with communications in a policy environment pertaining south-south cooperation is a major advantage. -Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and expertise in graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver, Coreldraw and power-point and other related software applications) is advantage. Language Requirements Fluency in both oral and written communication in Portuguese and English.
