Background

The UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre (BRC) is the organization’s main knowledge and advisory hub for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. It aims to connect the region to a global network of development experts, to build knowledge and capacity, and to forge partnerships to meet the development challenges of a large and diverse region. The BRC also aims to capture and spread development successes and best practices in the region and to improve the impact of UNDP's work through effective communications and advocacy.

The overall objective of the Regional HIV, Health and Development (HHD) Programme is to increase the capacity of countries in the region to implement evidence-informed, multi-sectoral national responses to HIV and other communicable and non-communicable diseases and to strengthen UNDP Country Office HHD practitioners’ capacity to support those efforts. A special emphasis is placed on the needs of marginalized populations at higher risk of infection and diseases and ensuring the rights of people affected by and suffering under HIV and other communicable and non-communicable diseases. As co-sponsor of UNAIDS, UNDP plays the leading role in HIV/AIDS as it relates to the MDGs and human development, multi-sectoral governance, human rights, gender and sexual diversity.  A key part of the UNDP’s work also focuses on ensuring access to affordable essential medicines using among others trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS) flexibilities and strengthened capacity for implementation of AIDS, TB, malaria and NCD funds and programmes financed through bilateral/multilateral funding initiatives, including GFATM.

UNDP also has the mandate in sustainable development which includes a multi-sectoral and rights-based approach to health in support to the leadership role of WHO and in collaboration with other UN agencies.
The work of the HHD Practice leads to the development of a large body of knowledge products (including papers, policy briefs, power point presentations, data sheets, etc.) which needs to be effectively disseminated  for advocacy purposes and to ensure proper visibility of programme results and achievements.
