The United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (UNIAP) was established to facilitate a stronger and more coordinated response to human trafficking in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS: Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam). It initially brought together six Governments, thirteen UN agencies, one inter -governmental organization and seven international NGOs at a regional level. This has now evolved into an extensive network of Government, local and international NGOs, UN organizations and donors throughout the six countries. The project has also become the Secretariat to the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT) process, a government process based on a signed MOU (and dedicated to implementing a three-year Sub-regional Plan of Action) among the six Mekong governments to collaborate and cooperate in building a sustainable system of sub -regional cooperation against trafficking. The purpose of UNIAP in Phase III is to build on and further strengthen the regional response to human trafficking among governments, UN and other development partners working in the anti-trafficking sector, based on (a) improved cooperation within and between partners, (b) effective targeting of resources and expertise and (c) application/dissemination of the latest in lessons learned in and outside of the GMS.

The Regional Project Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Project Manager and will serve a key role on both the technical and administrative teams of the UNIAP Regional Project Management Office (PMO). S/he will provide programmatic and administrative support to UNIAP/PMO’s activities and initiatives, as well as ensure the efficient management of the PMO office.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide programme support to UNIAP/PMO activities and initiatives

  • Coordinate and provide design inputs to UNIAP publications, communications, and advocacy materials, ensuring effective messaging and a uniform UNIAP-branding.
  • Provide logistical, and administrative support for regional training activities, in Thailand and elsewhere in the GMS as needed.
  • Coordinate and circulate the project’s monthly activity report and maintain related records, providing analysis and guidance on how to maximize sharing of lessons learned across all UNIAP offices. 
  • Research and retrieval of statistical data from internal and external sources, assist in the preparation of charts, tables and reports.
  • Take a lead in the organization of workshops, conferences and retreats.
  • Organise translation and interpretation functions in preparation for regional meetings and in regional meetings as required. 
  • Represent UNIAP PMO at workshops and meetings as required.
  • Provide in-country field support to our six country offices upon request for programmatic needs.

2. Ensure efficient HR and consultant support

  • Maintain personnel file for staff and consultant of the project.
  • Coordinate with UNDP on HR related issues as required.
  • Maintain effective tracking system for staff contract, coordinate staff performance evaluation and prepare request for staff contract extension.
  • Initiate the procurement process on hiring of professional services and carry out requisition process in ATLAS. 
  • Contribute to knowledge building and knowledge sharing of the office.

3. Ensure efficient Administrative support

  • Provide administrative support to the regional project manager.
  • Draft correspondence to support the day-to-day management of the project.
  • Provide inputs to the administrative business process of the office.
  • Ensure that office equipment is well maintained and fully functional.
  • Coordinate the office quarterly travel plan and other calendars.
  • Coordinate travel arrangement for technical staff and consultants, make hotel reservations, prepare travel authorizations, organize request for visas and assist with travel related payments.
  • Support with protocol matter, security matter, UN ID care and registration of staff.
  • Represent UNIAP in administrative-related meetings as required.

Required Skills and Experience


  • Thai national with Bachelor’s degree in social science or relevant fields

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five years of experience working in development or administration
  • Familiarity with UN policies and administrative procedures is a strong advantage. 
  • Experience in the usage of computer and office software packages (MS word and excel, etc) and knowledge of spreadsheet and data base packages.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. 

Language Requirement:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Thai and English.
