Background |

| Launched by the United Nations in July 2000, the UN Global Compact is both a policy platform and a practical framework for companies that are committed to sustainability and responsible business practices. The Global Compact Networks are clusters of Global Compact participants who come together to advance the initiative at regional or local level. Their role is to support companies in their efforts in implementing the Global Compact, while also creating opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action. The Global Compact Brazilian Committee (CBPG in Portuguese) was created in 2003. It is a voluntary group with the objective of promoting the Global Compact Principles in the management of enterprises operating in Brazil, as a means of strengthening corporate social responsibility in the country. Beginning in January 2011, UNDP Brazil is the focal point of the Global Compact in Brazil and coordinates the support to the CBPG. In January 2013 the two year term of office of the elected Board of Directors, composed of representatives of Braskem, CPFL, Itaipu, Petrobras and ISAE-Parana has begun. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Secretary, the Adviser will assist in providing leadership in the implementation and execution of the 2013-2014 Strategic Plan for the Global Compact network in Brazil and technical support to the work of CBPG. The contract to be offered is a service contract from UNDP, subject to its administrative supervision by the organization as well its own rules and regulations. The Adviser works in close collaboration with the Executive Secretary, the Global Compact Brazilian Committee, and its Executive Board, as well as with UNDP Country Office as required exchanging information and supporting programme implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities |
|
| Summary of Key Functions: - Organize, convene and participate in ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the CBPG; - Under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, liaise with the CBPG members, the Brazilian network participants, UNDP and the United Nations’ teams, and articulate initiatives with public institutions and other organizations promoting CBPG capacity as a reliable partner to national counterparts; -Follow up the implementation of the Strategic Plan and support programme execution; - Follow up of management of contributions of the members of the CBPG according to UNDP rules and regulations and as stated in the cost sharing agreement letters and to the Global Compact Foundation in NY; - Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing and advocacy for GC principles and Millennium Development Goals. 1. Organize ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the CBPG: - Organize calendars and meetings of the CBPG, training workshops and events; - Draft meeting minutes of the CBPG and related reports in consultation with the Executive Secretary and UNDP; - Draft meeting agenda for approval of the Executive Secretary and the CBPG Board; - Follow up activities and commitments derived from CBPG deliberations; - Participate in meetings of CBPG Task Forces when required; - Support the Executive Secretary in making sure the CPBG rules are applied, especially when it comes to monitor CBPG members’ participation and engagement; - Support the Executive Secretary in making sure participatory processes are established, and CPBG deliberations are final. 2. Support the Executive Secretary in liaising with the Brazilian network participants, UNDP and the United Nations’ teams, and articulate initiatives with public institutions and other organizations: - Facilitate new memberships; - Training and capacity building of new signatories of the Global Compact; - Control of compliance with Communications of Progress; - Dissemination of Global Compact Principles; - Coordinate with UNDP contacts and relationships with other UN agencies and with the Global Compact Office when required; - Support the GCO missions to Brazil; - Contributes to the Secretariat of the Global Compact activities and related global initiatives. 3. Follow up the implementation of the Strategic Plan: - Support the achievement of targets established by CBPG concerning the growth in the number of signatories, and other indicators established in the Strategic Planning; - Support programme execution, while also helping to ensure coordination of activities of the six task forces; - Monitor programmed initiatives, time schedules, targets and budgets, helping to ensure efficient delivery. 4. Follow up of the management of the contributions of the members of the CBPG according to UNDP rules and regulations as stated in the cost sharing agreement letters: - Monitor budget and proposal of budgets revisions; - Support preparation of financial statements to be presented to CBPG in coordination with UNDP; - Help ensure efficient allocation of resources to the Executive Secretariat’s office; -Support fund raising activities for CBPG activities when required. 5. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing focusing on achievement of the following results: - Hold training workshops to actual or potential GC participants; -Research and share papers, documents and reports on the GC principles that are of interest to the Brazilian Network. -Disseminate best practices and lessons learned; - Provide participants with information on COP requirements and tools to support their full participation in the GC initiative; - Update contents of the website of the Global Compact – Brazil; - Provide communication materials to share information on activities and opportunities for the Brazilian Network participants; - Follow up the Communications Task Force on the execution of its programmed activities; - Preparation of status and progress reports; - Review translation of GC materials for training workshops, website, and GCO messages to Brazilian participants; - Liaise with the GCO on the status of GC Brazilian participants, training materials, surveys, and on relevant information to be shared with the Brazilian Network; - Update the KSS system with information on the GC Brazil activities implemented annually. Impact of Results The key results have an impact on the overall efficiency of Brazilian Committee of the Global Compact and on the success in implementation of its strategies. Accurate analysis, data entry and presentation of information contribute to proper implementation of the CBPG Strategic Planning 2011-2012.
