Background

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism, including the mobilization of volunteers. It serves the causes of peace and development through enhancing opportunities for participation by all peoples. It is universal, inclusive and embraces volunteer action in all its diversity. This post is a UN Volunteer assignment based on the values of free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism. In all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct.  Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich your understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between yourself and the people in your host community.

Duties and Responsibilities

The National UNV Project Officer will undertake the following tasks:
  • Support on project monitoring and reporting
  • Support on administrative services
  • Support on financial and technical management

Competencies

  • Project document control procedures and document filing system set up;
  • Improved timeliness in the preparation and submission of Fund Authorization and Certificate of Expenditures (FACE)
  • Improved project monitoring and compliance with management and administrative requirements from donors (technical and financial reports)
  • Improved compilation of accurate information for the monitoring and evaluation results framework
  • Improved organisation and management of related activities including project board meetings, conferences and seminars
  • Improved staff capacity
  • Improved dissemination of project outputs and results
  • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

Required Skills and Experience

  • University Degree in Business or Public Administration, Economics, Political Science and Social Sciences.  At least 3 years relevant work experience at the national or international level, providing administrative and management support to project/programme implementation and oversight. Experience in financial management and reporting.
  • Computer literacy including the Internet and office software packages, advanced knowledge of word-processing, handling complex spreadsheets and database packages, and web-based management systems. Technical report writing and communications experience is desirable. Experience with donor funded projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting projects involving government stakeholders is desirable. Experience in a legislative environment is an added advantage.
  • Experience organizing exchange workshops and/or training activities. Work experience in an international organization and with developing countries is an advantage, as is knowledge of UNDP policies, procedures and practices;
