Background

UNDP invites applications from energetic, motivated and proactive students for internship programme. Currently internships are open in the following UNDP units: Communications Unit and Operations Department.

The UNDP internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UN and UNDP's work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UN’s goals, principles and activities. It is designed to complement communication-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects. Interns are not financially remunerated by the UN.

Under the overall guidance of the Unit Head, the Intern provides the support in carrying out the communication related issues ensuring high quality of work and timely service delivery.


Duties and Responsibilities

Provides effective support to the Unit Head on achievement of the following results:

Communications:
  • Updates national and regional mass media data bases;
  • Supports organizing observances of the international days, press conferences, other UNDP and UN-led activities;
  • Daily mass media monitoring;
  • Drafts background information, information notes and features for local distribution when needed;
  • Contributes to the development and production of the communications products including publications, promo materials;
  • Provides administrative support;
  • Updates web-site and works with the UN’s account in social networks.

Operations:

  • Drafting of the letters and documents;
  • Update of data bases;
  • Support in maintaining proper filing system;
  • Scanning of the documents;
  • Support in organization of events, conferences and other activities as necessary;
  • Support in daily activities of the Unit;
  • Provide administrative support;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Impact of Results
UNDP planned activities and daily course of work are executed accurately and timely according to the schedule.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
Applicants shall be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school at the time of application and during the internship; or have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages.

For internship in UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI) enrollment in Journalism, Public Relations or related graduate programme would be considered as an advantage.
 
Experience:
Experience with media environment and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) would be preferable.

Language Requirements:
Fluency in Ukrainian/Russian and English
