Antecedentes

The mission of the Human Development Report Office (HDRO) is to advance human development through the development and promotion of the annual Human Development Report. The objective is to contribute towards the expansion of opportunities, choice and freedom. HDRO works with others to achieve change through writing and research, data analysis and presentation, support to national and regional analysis and outreach and advocacy work. HDRO works towards this objective by promoting innovative new ideas, advocating practical policies, and by constructively challenging policies and approaches that constrain human development.

Job Summary
 
The objective of this internship is to support the Online Communications Manager in the migration of the human development reports website, undertake daily communications tasks and provide creative input to the HDRO communications activities.
 
Working under the supervision of the Online Communications Manager, the intern will be expected to perform the following tasks:
  • Collaborate on the migration of the HDRO website, particularly by testing content entry and migrating the NHDR library;
  • Contribute to daily communications updates, particularly on HDRO’s social media platforms;
  • Work on a small creative communications assignment, which will be agreed with the Online Communications Manager within the first week of the internship, and will be related to the organization of the Global Human Development Forum in November 2013.
Measureable deliverables will include:
  • At least 50% of NHDR library is migrated to the new Drupal website;
  • Contribution to daily Facebook and Twitter updates increases engagement of audience to the 2013 Human Development Report and the Global Human Development Forum. The audience engages with the content, asks questions and shares the HDRO posts, in a way that meaningfully contributes to the spread of human development ideas.
  • Creative communications assignment is completed by the end of the internship.
  • Report on activities performed during internship, including successes and lessons learned, is submitted before the end of the internship.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree/Graduate program in a relevant subject including: development studies, social sciences, knowledge management, media or communications;
  • Outstanding English writing skills and proven expertise in online communications;
  • Written and spoken fluency in French and/or Spanish desirable;
  • Strong website content managements skills (HTML and CMS experience such as Wordpress or Drupal desirable – no other programming skills required);
  • Proven experience with social media communications;
  • Proven experience of creative communications, such as communications event organization, data visualization creation, video animation production, etc.
  • Desire to work on multiple tasks and under set deadlines and to actively participate in and work with teams.
