BCtA is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which hosts the BCtA Secretariat, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), and the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF).
 
The Inclusive Business Knowledge Consultant will work under the supervision of the Knowledge Management, Capacity and Results Reporting Programme Specialist and in consultation with the Acting Programme Manager of the Business Call to Action Initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities

To provide strategic knowledge management support to the BCtA Secretariat in order to raise awareness and build knowledge around the concept of Inclusive Business and around member company initiatives being implemented by BCtA companies.
 
The Consultant will deliver the following services to the BCtA Secretariat under the supervision of the Knowledge, Capacity and Results Reporting Programme Specialist and in consultation with the Acting Programme Manager of the Business Call to Action Initiative:
 
Knowledge Contributions:
  • Gather and evaluate key qualitative and quantitative data on the companies reaching the bottom of the pyramid and utilize publicly available data to produce knowledge products that demonstrate the impact of inclusive business, such as sector profiles, case studies, webinar concept notes, outcomes documents from BCtA knowledge-focused events;
  • Lead BCtA’s creation of its flagship webinar series, with collaborations from a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Conduct in-depth primary and secondary research on a broad range of topics and various sectors related to inclusive business;
  • Lead dissemination of BCtA research in a variety of online and offline formats, on Twitter, the Pracitioner’s Hub, and other platforms (including writing short blurbs, blog posts and introductory material where necessary);
  • Lead the compilation and production of the BCtA Annual Review;
  • Assist in production, design, content creation, and dissemination of quarterly newsletters, including management and storage of BCtA stakeholders contacts with detailed information on their preferences;
  • Identify opportunities for the development of new BCtA knowledge products and services in response to evolving needs;
  • Create, update, and mail BCtA collateral materials for distribution at the events to ensure accuracy and quality of printed materials;
  • Create new marketing materials as appropriate and directed by the Secretariat;
  • When applicable, support communications during the event, such as live-tweeting, taking notes, recording video, taking photos, and assisting with AV equipment;
  • Actively coordinate knowledge based partnerships and collaborations with other leading actors in the field under supervision from the Programme Specialist.
Website, Graphic Layout and Design Coordination:
  • Manage and enhance BCtA website content using customized WordPress application ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information on member initiatives, events, blogs, and publications. This includes creating new website pages as necessary, consistently updating information about BCtA’s 82 member companies and extensive stakeholder members, ensuring formatting, look, design and feel of the BCtA website remains consistent;
  • Updating current BCtA collateral to ensure accuracy and quality;
  • Create new marketing materials in InDesign as needed; including design and graphic layout in high resolution of BCtA brochures, BCtA reports, BCtA invitations, BCtA event publicity materials (flyers, posters, banners etc.);
  • Through close liaison with the Finance Associate, the Consultant shall facilitate the procurement of graphic, printing and editing services to ensure the high quality of BCtA knowledge products, as well as other services essential to BCtA
  • The Consultant shall serve as the focal contact for ongoing web service providers certifying quality of services delivered
 The consultant shall support the BCtA Secretariat in other knowledge management tasks that may arise during the assignment period. The consultant shall be ready to undertake international travel on behalf of the Secretariat if required. The consultant will work closely with the communications office and finance offices of the UNDP as well as the other partners of the BCtA in implementing this assignment.

Deliverables
  • Lead and disseminate research and knowledge products on the impact of inclusive business ( 4-6 webinars, 4-6 webinar reports, 1-3 sector profiles and 4-6 case studies);
  • Lead the compilation and production of the BCtA Annual Review;
  • Timely and high quality production of BCtA marketing materials and event support for 3-5 BCtA events;
  • Quarterly production of BCtA newsletter (3x) and ongoing management and updating of BCtA’s flagship website.
The consultant shall report to the Knowledge Management, Capacity and Results Programme Specialist in consultation with the Acting Programme Manager of the Initiative. The consultant shall provide monthly updates on progress made in terms of the above deliverables.
 
The consultant shall support the BCtA Secretariat in other knowledge management tasks that may arise during the assignment period. The consultant shall be ready to undertake international travel on behalf of the Secretariat if required. The consultant will work closely with the communications office of the UNDP as well as the other partners of the BCtA in implementing this assignment.
 
Payments for work completed shall be made on a monthly basis based on deliverables submitted and deemed satisfactory by the Secretariat.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • An advanced degree in international development or a related field.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1.5 years of relevant experience in an international development institution (UN system experience desirable);
  • Experience in inclusive business;
  • Experience in website management and social media tools;
  • Demonstrated track record of publications on business and development such as case studies, reports, articles, etc. (at least 3 samples publications required with application);
  • Must be proficient with InDesign, Photoshop and WordPress.
Language requirements:
  • Fluency in English is required (written and verbal). Working knowledge of Spanish/Portuguese/French or other UN languages is desirable.

Evaluation:

Individual consultants will be evaluated using the Cumulative Analysis methodology. When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract should be made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:
  • Responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation;
  • Technical Criteria weight: 70%;
  • Financial Criteria weight: 30%.
Technical Criteria:
  • Demonstrated experience in inclusive business 25%;
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating activities for an international multistakeholder institution 25%;
  • Track record of publications on business and development such as case studies, reports, articles, etc. (at least 3 sample publications) 25%;
  • Experience in website management, notably WordPress functions as well as use of Adobe Design Suite tools (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator), creation of newsletters and promotional materials, management of webinars 25%.
Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70 percent of technical would be considered for the Financial Evaluation.

Financial: 30 points

  • Financial proposal specifying the daily fee which should include all related expenses including related benefits and insurance. All envisaged travel costs must be included in the financial proposal as a separate line.
